Preserving Character

This home is about 86 years old and possesses a lot of great character. To increase the function of the kitchen and stick with the homes original feel, the contractor decided to move the wall separating the kitchen and dining room two feet into the dining room. This allowed enough space in the kitchen to comfortably add an island. The island is topped with a maple butcher block counter which eliminates the need for storing cutting boards and allows for two cooks to chop at the same time. The cherry cabinetry has a deep mocha finish to blend with the homes original rich wood work. The back entrance/pantry space was transformed into a handy spot for the microwave and wine chiller. This space is remote from the kitchen yet accessible for entertaining. The cabinets above are great for storing small kitchen appliances or platters that are not used on an everyday basis. The end result is a new cabinetry and countertop style that looks amazing in this 86 year old home. Dale Hall Photography, LLC
