This stunning glass enclosed modern custom wine cellar was designed and installed by Vintage Cellars earlier this year. The Contemporary Custom Wine Room was fitted into an existing fireplace space, turning the visually unappealing sore thumb of the room into a magnificent show stopping centerpiece. This modern luxury condo on the 31st floor in a downtown San Diego high-rise acted as a very interesting project for the custom wine cellar design team at Vintage Cellars. The modern wine room space has dual paned, insulated glass but because of the nature of glass itself, the cooling unit was recommended to be oversized. The custom wine room space itself didn't have great options for venting the cooling unit due to the location on the 31st floor. The best option to vent was determined to treat the wine room as a wine cabinet, per se. The Cooling Unit, a CellarPro 1800 XTS, was placed in the ceiling, venting down cool air and circulating vented air back upward. The result works perfectly for a uniquely modern and contemporary space such as this. This fully enclosed, glass front custom wine cellar boasts a 300 bottle capacity with a sleek, modern, label forward feel that ULTRA Wine Peg racking is known for. The center section is a double stacked full reveal display row, showcasing some of the homeowner's finer wines. Though no particular space was made within the wine racking area, the design of this modern custom wine cellar was pushed back a couple of feet so that wine case storage could be an option between the glass front and the custom racking. Additionally, the clean feel goes even further upon looking for the entrance into this wine cellar. The flat panel on the furthest left side opens slowly and almost magically when pushed in slightly. A great, modern touch! A gorgeous, modern condo such as this is just begging to have a custom wine cellar. This space, with big help from this contemporary wine room, screams luxury upon entering. Custom wine cellar by Cutting Edge Glass

Level One: Our goal was to create harmony of colors and finishes inside and outside the home. The home is contemporary; yet particular finishes and fixtures hint at tradition, especially in the wine cave. The earthy flagstone floor flows into the room from the entry foyer. Walls clad in mountain ash stone add warmth. So does the barrel ceiling in quarter sawn and rift American white oak with natural stain. Its yellow-brown tones bring out the variances of ochers and browns in the stone. To maintain a contemporary feeling, tongue & grove ceiling planks are narrow width and closely set. The minimal wine rack has a diamond pattern that repeats the floor pattern. The wine barrel table and stools are made from recycled oak wine barrels. Their circular shapes repeat the room’s ceiling. Metal hardware on barrel table and stools echo the lighting above, and both fuse industrial and traditional styling, much like the overall room design does. Photograph © Darren Edwards, San Diego

Walk into the kitchen in this Poway / Rancho Bernardo, San Diego home and it's impossible to miss this gorgeous 2,000 bottle, custom wine cellar showpiece. Completed in 2018, the cellar is complete with custom walnut stained poplar wine racking, rolling ladder for out of reach bottles, and much, much more. Against each window into the kitchen are floor to ceiling frames showcasing label out, metal racking to add a bit of modern flair. Two high reveal display rows circle the entire room, showcasing this homeowner's best bottles and designed to be angled perfectly to ensure the corks stay wet for long term storage. An island in the middle of the room acts as a great spot to open and decant wines, and integrated into each side are custom pieces of cabinetry and room for side displayed large format bottles. Also integrated into the racking is a a small countertop and glass rack. Custom wine cellar and tasting room with butlers pantry...wine racks and coffer ceiling are made of white oak and the butlers pantry cabinets are black walnut. Seamless glass divides the two spaces and we did brick on the ceiling in both the tasting room and wine cellar.
