Our As-Built drawings included no dimensions. Many (at least 11 different notes) of our written specific requirements were not addressed or were ignored in the proposed drawings. We communicated we did not need/want fancy renderings or hand holding. We are somewhat experienced in this field. We asked for architectural plans and structural calculations meeting city design, planning, and building requirements. We were given a set of incomplete plans and structural calcs with no engineering stamp. Despite our many attempts at resolution, Travis just wanted to talk. Soda Mountain did not do the job and instead charged us approx. $20,000 for inappropriate and incomplete plans and about $2,000 for engineering with no stamp.

Soda Mountain Construction is definitely worth considering if you are looking to build in the Steamboat area. I have previously been involved on two high-end new construction projects with Chris Rhodes, owner of SMC and I’m in the process of a third project. He has a keen eye for detail and a demonstrates a very hands on approach from the design right through to delivery of the final product. He only works with quality craftsmen to ensure your home will be built right, not just from an aesthetic standpoint, but also from a structural and functional standpoint. The SMC team consists of Chris and his wife Mara so its a bit of a family affair and together they provide that edge verses a solo operator. You’ll always be in the know and the project will be on budget and meet timelines. I highly encourage anyone with a building vision to meet with them, go see some of their finished products and see for yourself. It will be worth it!
