Since 1989, Karen Arent Landscape Architect, a woman-owned business enterprise, has worked on a diverse range of residential, commercial and municipal projects. Several residential and commercial projects involved the development of green infrastructure solutions for storm water management, environmentally sensitive site design and sustainable planting design. Responsibilities include visual impact assessment, site development, land planning, and detailed site design. Her design work has won awards and her projects have been published in magazines including Public Works and Builder. Karen is also the landscape architectural consultant for several communities where she reviews site plans in an effort to create a sense of place within each community. She also provides comments with regard to minimizing visual and environmental impacts to the greatest extent practical. The firm uses a variety of talents to create landscapes that enhance each site's unique cultural and natural landscape. Site planning begins with documenting existing landscape elements including topography, unique natural features, drainage, views, existing trees and rock outcrops, as well as cultural features including existing buildings, stone walls and monuments. KALA works closely with each client to develop a program for the site that meets both functional and aesthetic needs. The firm specializes in developing sustainable and timeless landscapes which celebrate the intrinsic spirit and beauty of each site while meeting the client's program for the site.
