With this or any contractor, get a FULL and workable contract in advance. My "turn-key" modular home was supposed to be finished four or five months. I moved into an unfinished home in eight months after endless problems. Many things that would be expected in a turnkey home were never done, such as caulking around plumbing, filling nail holes, etc. Subcontractors did a lot of unnecessary damage to the lot, buried supplies and granite yard ornaments that I'd paid the demolition crew to save. There are at least four National Electric Code violations in the breaker box. I was told I'd get a credit for the water heater I didn't take but did not. Quotes for any deviations from the standard plan were outrageous. The entire project was a nightmare. Make sure to read Heckaman Homes Yelp reviews before continuing!

Our 1984 home was showing its age. We had done some work ourselves, but when it came to the kitchen and the master bath, we decided we needed a pro. Mark and his assistant Tina Warfel came out and provided a bunch of great ideas. We went through several revisions of drawings, till the blend of our ideas and theirs felt right. Jacob Call supervised most of the work, and I was very impressed with his professionalism, with the way the team interacted, and how SMART they were about solving the problems which inevitably come up with a remodel. They also cleaned up EVERY SINGLE DAY. (This was not my experience with hubby-led projects!) A big project means sharing space with the team every day for many weeks, and I have to say, these folks were just a pleasure to have around. I am an IT project manager, and I really value transparency. Not every project can come in on time and under budget, but "surprises" should be kept to a minimum. Communication was really, really good with this team. The right hand knows what the left hand is doing, because they talk to one another daily, and perhaps more importantly, LISTEN to each other. When issues arose that would affect the budget, or the feasibility of doing something we had planned on, or the timeline, we were given plenty of notice and a range of reasonable options for dealing with it. We are THRILLED with the final product, and pleased to recommend Shews Design. They are a trustworthy team that does excellent work. That they are connected to Habitat for Humanity and had good homes for our old cabinetry and appliances is a plus.

My wife and I had Shew's design, come and renovate our bathroom. They came in, we're very professional and worked to make sure we were happy with the end result. I was very pleased with the overall project and the results of their work. Their quote was right on and very competitive with others that we had gotten. However, it was the fact that Mark was very detailed in the quote and offered many options, that made us feel comfortable with him. Mark and Tina from Shew Design did a great ;job on our kitchen remodel. They provided us with a starting floor plan, and worked with us to customize it to fit our family and our tastes. Mark helped us design, then installed our kitchen cabinets 8 years ago when we did a full kitchen remodel. The design is great, and makes the kitchen easy to use. And the cabinets are beautiful and well built. We haven't had a single problem with them since he installed them. He was very quick at the installation, and changes to the "standard" cabinets were no problem at all. I woul definitely call him again for any future projects.

Built a beautiful 4000sqft house for us with excellent kitchen in cherry and Silestone counters, wonderful 5" trim, solid doors. 2.5 car garage. Any issues or questions we had were worked out quickly and resolved to our satisfaction. Would use Mark over and over.
