Wayde Beckman (of Akura Road) is an innovative, award-winning interior designer producing outstanding kitchens in the Wellington and Wairarapa regions of New Zealand. With over 20 years of experience, we bring renovation expertise to design, plan, and build high-quality kitchens and other home spaces that are as unique as my clients. 2025 presents you with a great opportunity to improve your home with a beautiful and functional kitchen. At Akura Road, we design and craft kitchens and interior spaces that are as beautiful as they are functional. Every project begins with listening—understanding how you live, what inspires you, and where design can elevate your everyday. Comprehensive Design - On completion of this service you will own a full set of plans. These will be detailed and enable you to procure the necessary services to complete the manufacture and installation of your new kitchen or bathroom. It includes the supply of the design concept, complete working drawings, and specifications for joinery, fitments, finishes, plumbing, electrical, and lighting plans. Comprehensive Design and Project Management - This includes the comprehensive design service plus the management of the project through to completion. I would form an agreement with you based on the estimated hours required to fulfill the project brief and keep you fully informed as things progress. Design Consultation - By-the-hour design consultation service. Some of my clients use this as an opportunity to test ideas, colour selection, lighting design, and for the development of design concepts. Whatever your particular need is, this is an economical way to gain some valuable design advice.

Wayde helped us with a kitchen renovation which involved knocking a wall down and extending into the dining area. We could not have done this without his expert project management and advice. He worked with us to achieve the bulk of the work over the Summer break to minimise impact on the family, seamlessly co-ordinating all of the people involved in the project, and ensuring his own Summer holiday also in the middle of it through good planning. We had huge confidence in the expert tradespeople who worked on the project, simply because of their links with Wayde, and they were all very professional and delivered work to a high standard. Wayde went above and beyond to assist us with some unexpected queries even beyond the completion of the project, and we were just so grateful and appreciative of his help with this. We could not be happier with our new kitchen, the flow, functionality and aesthetics and all done within budget. Wayde had already created our ideal kitchen and now he has delivered the ideal bathroom. He designed and project managed the transformation, engaging expert tradesmen, and ensuring the process was as smooth as possible. Our new bathroom is wheelchair accessible, with safety paramount, and tailored to meet our specific disabilities. All that was achieved without any loss of aesthetics, our room is bright, fun and warm.

He transformed our vague ideas into a detailed plan, then oversaw the creation of a beautiful, functional room that suits our abilities and our disabilities. My husband and I engaged the services of Wayde a few years ago for a new kitchen design, this was to not only include a complete rebuild of the current kitchen but to extend into the lounge and create a dining area. As we were inexperienced in this - Wayde was an invaluable asset in creating a space, providing advice on materials, appliances, flooring and lighting . The result is a space that has met all our requirements, will stand the test of time from an aesthetic and use perspective, is admired by all and brings a huge amount of joy. Out admiration of Wayde is 'huge'. - we subsequently used him for 2 bathroom renovations which also are fantastic. We would recommend Wayde to all!

An outstanding experience with exceptional results. Wayde really took the time to understand what kitchen space we wanted created in our home. Then he totally transformed our cluttered, pokey and dark 1970s kitchen into a streamlined, highly effective, light filled and enjoyable modern space to cook and socialize. He is highly practical as well as being creative with interior design which helps with material selection and utilizing all available space. His project management skills are exceptional. Wayde has a great team of professional tilers, joiners and other tradespeople that work seamlessly to get everything done on budget and on time even with the disruption of COVID. He has very high standards and expects the same from tradespeople he works with. We think our kitchen is fabulous and there is not one thing we would change. We highly recommend Wayde.

Wayde was excellent to work with, right from the very first site meeting through to completion of our new kitchen. He has an exceptional eye for design and came up with ideas and solutions that we’d have never thought of ourselves. A consummate design professional he pushed our thinking in relation to colours and materials, which has resulted in a stylish, modern and striking result that compliments the style of our home. As part of a renovation of a 1930’s bungalow, Wayde was engaged to design our kitchen. I had a fairly good idea of how I wanted the kitchen to look and perform. Wayde skilfully designed a kitchen that took those ideas, the quirks of the space, the functionality required and turned it into a beautiful place, which lifts my spirits every time I walk in. To achieve this, Wayde guided me through every aspect of materials, colour, form and functionality, including showroom visits where needed. To make Wayde’s task more difficult, I required the design to incorporate laundry functions. This was achieved and works seamlessly.

Wayde did a fantastic job helping us design, plan and build a new kitchen. In particular dealing with the Covid-19 lockdown and its aftermath. In more detail, Wayde: - Spent time discussing the design to understand what was important to us and how to make sure the kitchen met our needs. - helped us find a innovative designs that made much better use of the available space, including novel (for us) solutions like draws within draws, and a retractable electronic stack. - helped us navigate through the huge variety of designs and colours to find what worked for us. - develop a number of bespoke features, including metal panel with our own design. - helped us when, just after the kitchen was taken out, the level 4 lockdown started (March/April 2020). In the later stages of the lockdown, Wayge negotiated with contractors so that even during level 3 the work restarted, and we had a kitchen within a couple of weeks.
