How should I arrange shelves above my sofa

I have a new sofa and now looking for ways to rearrange my floating shelves. The existing shelves were put in when we had other cupboards there previously.

Happy to buy more shelves or start fresh with different length etc.

They look okay. But I would move your lounge to the left and away from the wall. Tall people will hit there head on the shelving. Or remove the shelving completely and have a large artwork on that wall.

Now it's beginning to work! Luv the rug! A few more red showstoppers, and I luv the post about matting your family pic, and larger frame for it. Looks like you might be a bit uncomfortable with the great post idea of moving your sofa out into the room away from wall. If so, could you accept putting it diagonally from the entrance doorway, across that corner where it is, stopping at the edge of your window? That's a bit of a move outward, still can see the fp and tv, and show off your new rug, which could go diagonally in front of the sofa. Then, if you like that, after a while you could move it on out as Deb K suggests. Sometimes intermediate steps are more doable for us than those big changes.Same with painting; if you could first paint just the fp wall, then later paint other walls...seems some color would really make it more homey. Would you cosider a quite contemporary fixture for the light in the center ceiling? Maybe a bit of red could go there!

It's refreshing to see nautical, navy BLUE. Everyone is saying the same thing for the most part - just introduce another color, definitely bright (yellow or orange IMO) and it will make it more current. What I really like is how your style will withstand the test of time - and with minor updates now and then it will always look fresh and "current".

Your picture display looks lovely with your sofa and will look better if you bring it down because it's a bit too high above the sofa ( unless you plan to keep adding to the picture collection below from where your pictures are hung now) and in that case just keep in mind that multiple frames look best when arranged in a diamond, rectangular or square shape and spaced relatively tight, like 1-2 inches apart. A looser grouping can work for a more casual display.

I love it. My only concern is this: this will be our only group sitting area. We don't have a family room or any other joint "comfy" rooms in the house. This was why I was concerned the barcelonas would be to clinical. But I like this couch, it looks like it could be very comfy. Also, the boyfriend wants this for the couch: http://www.steeldomus.com/lc2_3_seats_sofa_le_corbusier.htm Its a bit above our price range and again i'm worried about how comfy it will be and if it is too "doctor" office clinical. Floating shelves are hard to do. They work best when anchored with other architectural details ie within a nook, adjacent to cabinetry, over furniture. I agree with moving your sofa to the left, and we need a wider view of the room to see what features there are to align the shelves with. Examples below where there is alignment.

Once you move couch you could add a tall plant or lamp into corner to balance shelves

Thanks for the suggestion 🙏 unfortunately I can’t move the couch to the left because it would block the walk way into the kitchen, plus the TV is already off center as it is :( Moving it to the left will make it off center even further

Love your sofa, a few ideas for your shelves, you could stagger them or have one continuous shelf or just add a large artwork to the space next to your existing shelves.
