Black roof, black exterior with white trim work?

We are doing some work to the outside of our 80's style house and want to spruce it up a bit. The roof has just been re sprayed a dark black and now for the body of the house? We had in mind a charcoal with white trim but now were not too sure? Could it make it too black should we go for a grey instead, if so how dark?

Of the two you mention I prefer gray. Both colors seem wrong for your environment.

Are there any rules to follow regarding choosing exterior colours, ie, someone once told me that there should never be more than three colours, regarding the roof, walls and trims. Building a modern monoplane roof house on the coast. Like the idea of either Gull Grey or New Denim Blue for the metal roof. The interior pallette will be whites, inky navy, greys. Drawn towards grey for the weatherboard walls or white, prefer a black door. Although this is a modern house we are trying to inject a bit of modern farmhouse decor inside. I'm wanting advice please on paint colours to update this house. The roof isn't very old and is ironstone (colourbond) so I don't really want to repaint it yet. I don't like the brown aluminium windows I was thinking I'd like to use Blackjack resene colour upstairs and gauntlet downstairs which is (sandstone grey colour steel equivalent). We are also wanting to either replace the deck with kwila wood or take it back to wood rather than paint it? Any advice on colours or deck painting would be great. We also want to paint our fence but am unsure if we paint it white or black? We are surrounded by lots of greenery. Any help appreciated. I understand going with the grey since it is an 80's style house. You could also do bright bold colors. I do not know if that is your style.

I have attached a quick rendering of the gray scheme you mentioned. I prefer light colors above dark colors. This keeps in theme with the sky and earth. Makes the house seem more grounded. The dark entry also draws your eye to it especially with the light coming from the other side of the house.

If you must have a dark color I prefer something Earthy. This is SW Plantation Shutters.SW Nuthatch for trim but most people like more contrast.
Other Earthy colors I like
Left to right they are; Familiar Beige, Classic Sand, Sand Dollar and Moderate White.

I think of these as island colors.
They are; Mountain Air, Icicle, Dewy, Lacewing, Enlightened Lime, Spun Sugar and Roseate.

All colors I mention are Sherwin Williams as I was on their website. I think some potted plants would be nice on that side of the house.

Dark exteriors are very ontrend right now! How does Navy blue with crisp white trim work for you?
