Kitchen Lighting Help!

We are renovating and we want to put nice decorative lighting above our Kitchen island. My husband wants LED pot lights throughout the rest of the kitchen for energy saving. Any recommendations for new trends for energy saving options. I am not sure if I like pot lights????

The pot lights are for overall general lighting and LED units will be great. I like a decorative fixture over the island but make sure that it casts light down on the island surface. That can also be an LED fixture or you can replace bulbs with LEDs as needed. Please use under cabinet lighting as well to illuminate your countertop work space--yes to LEDs again! I am a big fan of having lighting on dimmer switches to control amount of light for different times of day or day/night options.

The LED pot lights are fabulous. However, be sure your electrician installs standard, retrofit recessed can housing and then use the LED replacements bulbs (my favorites come with the trim kit). This way you aren't locked into LED if something changes down the road. Everything about lighting is changing!

Yes benches are counters .... thanks for clarifying yoboseiyo! we have no high cabinets for the kitchen at this stage, we plan to do some kind of shelving but are waiting until the new "counters" and range are installed to get the feel for what we go with. Hard to get a photo at present as we are mid reno, the cabinetry is all installed....with no bench top yet.. we have our old cooker in the dining room and the new big range in there too as the area its going into is being tiled. The range will be the dominant feature in the kitchen so once that and the counter tops are in I'll take some pictures Organised Chaos!

I would get a better chandalier with better lighting and IMO DRs do not have to be bright as they are mostly used in the evening.

I love three in ones because if one bulb explodes, you've usually got a fair few backups before you have to completely fix the bulb (but that's just the laziness in me coming out). In my opinion, I don't think you need a demisting mirror because that's what the fan is for in the three in one.

How about something like the below up and down wall lights in a black/dark charcoal. Up and down beams can be adjusted and when lit at night, they will show off beautifully the linear cladding.
