Michael, I apologize for the length of time getting back to you. I just received your questions today. The hood is telescopic and manufactured by Miele. This hood's low profile makes it ideal for those wanting to see little if any hood at all. The telescoping feature provides the benefit of good ventilation over the cook top without impeding the natural motion of the cook, no matter their height. It is VERY quiet and operates quite efficiently.

Currently, Miele is the only manufacturer I know with this hood feature available in the USA.
