    Does it?

Dark tile roofs are a bad idea in most of Australia, due to our warm climate. They also contribute to the problem of the "urban heat island effect". Something Melburnians will dread on those stifling hot summer heatwaves.

The fact that just about everything else is concrete only adds to this problem.

    Curious which direction is north.

Unfortunately Melbourne is deemed a cold climate and for Energy Rating purposes the dark roofs help achieve the right Energy Rating.
