Is it worth it? I am planning a custom build and am thinking whether it’s worth it to give to a professional or just give to an electrician and get more cash to spend on the build itself?
Your electrician is going to ask for a plan. This can be a sketch but you need to think about whether you want down lights, pendants, sconces, vanity lights etc. that’s your call. A lighting designer can work with you get the best outcome and if this is done early in the design process you won’t find later that the structure goes right where you want a down light. Your builder will give you basic, architect more and lighting designer right to helping pick products from a much wider source than an electrician. So this depends on your skill.
Visit any reputable lighting store. They have in house lighting designers. Make an appointment, and take your plans. If you purchase your lighting from them for your build, there is usually no charge for consultation. We did this with our build with beacon lighting.
