Hi,
I’m assuming these are the ceiling joist jutting out as a feature on many Californian Bungalows, particularly the later ones in the 1920’s.
Does anyone know what they’re actually called?
And is there a replica version as a trim?
may be the exposed end of a ceiling binder that sits above the ceiling joist
They may have shaped the end of the exposed ceiling joists to imitate a decorative add-on known as dentils, which are popular in the UK. They are small shaped blocks attached to the soffit/ eaves and are usually made of wood, GRP or polymer.

The effect can also be replicated in brickwork, stonework and plaster, etc.

What's happened to my bathroom wall
could also be called a corbell that's more often used to support a mantlepiece or similar inside the house
