This home had the same problem in that there wasn't enough wall space for built-in's on either side of the fireplace.

So, instead, we made sure to include a storage furniture piece elsewhere in the room.

For this space, it was a console table. You could also consider a bookcase or coffee table (with closed storage).

As for a DVD player, this homeowner has it sitting on top of the mantle.

You could also create a niche below the TV for those components to sit.

Thank you! I have limited space so adding a storage piece might get tricky but I might be able to add a window bench with storage to our prominent front window to add seating/storage w/out taking up much room.
