We did it this way in order to emphasis the sculptural form of the house - if it was white it would have broken up the form somewhat. I think it depends on what you want to achieve, if the line of the joinery is at ceiling level then it is good to have the ceiling and the soffit the same colour in terms of how you experience the interior space. If the exterior look is more important then the dark soffit would probably work better."

What wall height and roof pitch would you recommend for a house with a flat roofed portico?

Hi, im wanting to construct a verandah roof off an existing block wall, the rafters will span 3.8 meters and will have a clearlight roof. what size rafter do i need?

I am currently replacing my extra low pitch almost flat long run steel roof, as there is no attic space only 250mm between the ceiling and roof and due to the heat coming off ceilings underneath we all need to take refuge downstairs in the garage during the summer months.I also want to do something about reducing the heat above the ceiling and also add more insulation.The original 1970s reflective roofing underlay paper will also need to be replaced.Anyone have any ideas of a good roofing underlay that would help reduce heat that is coming off the underside of the steel roofingI can only find black tar paper or the white synthetic house wrap at the hardware store.And any good brands ceiling insulation that will also help reduce heat.There is currently 100mm of glass fibre type batts insulation. I will also paint the roof white once it's installed.Any ideas would be appreciated.
