Combined woodfire and heat pump hydronic heating

Hi all

Has anyone had experience with using both woodfired boiler and a heat pump to power their inslab hydronic system. We are set to be building a new home around 213sqm 70km north of Melbourne which will be well insulated/north facing and off the grid. So i thought that it would be great to take advantage of the wood fire to heat our hot water and hydronics in winter whilst we're home most of the week and can keep the fire going and lesson the load on the batteries. We also have a block with plenty of firewood. Then on other days when we're say out for half or a full day we can have the heat pump take over. Seems to be a no brainer but cant find anyone who has had any experience with this , thus making us a little nervous. Wiseliving makes a large wood fired boiler the "Sophel" which heats up to 400sqm

Thanks

Jamie

It's been a while but, your plan sounds pretty solid to me. Using a wood-fired boiler alongside a heat pump seems like a smart way to balance your energy needs, especially considering your off-grid setup.

While I haven't personally tried the woodfired boiler/heat pump combo, it seems like a smart way to balance energy needs. Being off the grid adds another layer of consideration, but with proper setup, it sounds like a win-win. I remember when we were renovating our place, we debated similar options. Ended up going with a different setup, but I've heard great things about integrating wood-fired systems with modern tech. If you're feeling nervous, maybe reach out to local experts or even boiler repair London services for advice. Sometimes a chat with pros can ease those concerns.

Do you want to integrate the wood-fired boiler with heat pump? How does the current setup work?
