Save yourself money you don’t need them in the bedroom. Have one central light and then lamps. The kitchen is wrong. You need light between your head and the cooktop and, your head and the sink. Same with the bathroom. You’re looking at symmetry on a plan rather than functionality. Don’t forget about the actual tasks that you’ll be using light for. Are the red dots in the kitchen above the cabinetry and fridge, if so they’re a waste. Have you planned your furniture layout for the lounge? How does your light placement fit with that?

Thanks for that. With regards to the kitchen that's the old layout on this plan, below is the new layout (reversed to the above plan) which will show the reason for the light placements as cooker and fridge move. That's my fault for missing this off.

For lounge area we're still weighing up furniture plans. We were hoping to have the sofa on the left hand wall in the alcove and tv on the opposite wall. However the tv antenna box is on the balcony wall and would need to be moved to allow that configuration. With the bedrooms we were planning on ceiling fan in main bedroom and not a huge lover of ceiling fans with lights in. For bed 2 this will likely be a home office part of the time so lighting will need to be relatively good in this room.

Re the bathroom that was my thoughts, everything i've read said placement above vanity, however i have an architect friend who gave me some feedback and said to align with hall and other lights in room. I'd rather specific task lighting alignment over visual perspective.

We’ve always been impressed by the lighting from Brightgreen when we’ve used it. (We had D900 CB for our living room and kitchen which had a 5.2m ceiling, and the D700 CB in the kitchen over benches)

Just with the kitchen, best to have the down lights over the bench, so your not casting a shadow over the food your trying to prepare on the bench

Thank you for the extra info but I still think you need to go back to the drawing board. In the lounge with the furniture layout, you’re going to have the lights directly in your eyes when on the couch and directly shining on the TV. In your bedroom you’ll struggle to see in the side parts of the wardrobe. The correct kitchen layout needs to be marked up for a proper comment but I think you’re still missing task lighting. And even if using the second bedroom as a study you need a central light. The lights shown will be good for desks but what if that changes in the future. In the plus side the dining room looks good and the hall adequate.

Thanks for feedback so far. To clarify for the living area lights our thoughts were to have gimbal recessed downlights angled to wash the wall with light and not directly on to people below. I'd done some reading on utilising this method for lighting rather than traditional straight downlights. This was the same plan for all of the pink lights, to have them wall washing to light the rooms up and also artwork on the walls.

Agree regarding the plans, waiting for architect to incorporate the new kitchen design so hopefully this will allow us to accurately place our proposed plans.

This may be way out of line with what you want, but I would have a big re think about all the downlights. They have become almost ubiquitous, but I think that is partly decision fatigue,as people get towards the end of their planning and throw their hands up an just say ”do whatever everyone else does” and the tradies are happy, because they can do it on autopilot, but as well as being boring and ugly, downlights do come with plenty of downsides - they require holes to be made in the ceiling insulation, if these are inadequate they start firesx, the quality of the light is not nice - focused beams that produce glare if looking up, and weird spot reflections off anything with a gloss finish, annoying to change the bulbs.. Good on you for thinking about your lighting plan, but maybe give some more thought to the kind of light produced as well as the placement. No need to have the same as all theother sheep either.

Appreciate this comment and I do agree with your sentiments. I've tried, and failed, proposing using less ceiling lights especially downlights in areas like bedrooms, living rooms as the glare is annoying at most times. My partner on the other hand likes bright rooms and is conformed to the view of downlights are the must have modern fittings and reflect the upgrade in our renovation from current single light in each room not really providing sufficient light.

We only really plan to be in this apartment for 2-3 years and then either selling or keeping as an investment property. So trying to balance form, design and budget in the mix to come up with an agreeable solution.

I'm going to engage Beacon's lighting team as we're looking at getting the pendant from there so it makes the service free. This is just to see what ideas they come up with for us. I'd ideally like to reduce the amount of downlights and use other light sources such as lamps to light the rooms up with other ambient light.

Move lights in kitchen over benches so in front of you. Add a second sconce in bathroom to balance light. Could delete light over bath. Add extra lights in middle of other rooms. I like lights on different switches to change the mood. But all this adds to cost. Lamps can be cheaper but need power points too.
