I can’t decide layout of kitchen and laundry area. I hang most of washings in laundry so need a good space for them.

Do you think we’d better have an easy access from garage / laundry to pantry / kitchen (photo 1) or having more storage (photo2)? Do you think kitchen and laundry are too big in photo 2?

is there another location for a powder room or study and do you use a dryer or indoor clothesline?...we need to see the whole downstairs floorplan with all dimensions to make realistic suggestions

Thanks oklouise, there are 3 powder rooms in plan 1 so we are thinking to get rid of a study between bedroom and bathroom and relocate it to where powder room is like plan 2.

I use dryer and indoor clothesline too.

laundry 2.5x3.3m
pantry / appliances area 2x2.5m

Floor plan 2
laundry 3x3.3m plus drying space 2.5m length
Pantry 2.6x1.8m

I’m really struggling the laundry and kitchen layout. Any advice would be much appreciated!

With the pantry being located where it is, it provides a opportunity to make it inbuilt and continue your bench top along. This would then provide more bench space and would make sure you are using that wall to its full potential. However for space and flow and to make your kitchen more ascetically pleasing, we would suggest keeping the island bench and making the appliances integrated. This provides opportunity to make that far wall a feature wall, which can be as simple as a blackboard or pictures, to making it a colour feature (depending on you cabinetry) or even to make it high class you could create a wood paneling feature. I hope this helps, either way you can add bonus features to your kitchen, you can create more storage and bench space with changing the pantry, or you could make a design feature out of that wall. so we are renovating the kitchen/laundry area and need some advice about the layout. It’s quite a large space, and I’ve leant towards the current layout and adding a window to the side wall where that cupboard is. But I love the idea of a sink at the window, and also think the sloping ceiling would look better with the sink on that wall. Removing ranch slider. measurements for that wall into laundry (behind fridge) are 6200 long, 1500 wide. Current opening is 800 and the kitchen is 4350 Along the back wall. Any recommendations for layout?

Hi Chrissie, Not sure if you are still interested in some feedback for your kitchen/laundry/toilet redesign after 2 months but as you seem to have no comments, I thought I'd offer some for your consideration. Before looking at an actual solution, I'd avoid having the toilet accessed through the kitchen and try not to combine the laundry and pantry. The moisture in the laundry is not helpful in the pantry if you have a dryer. It appears that you are happy to close off the back door so I will assume that is ok. Below is a plan that might work well for you. All the external windows are kept in the same place to save some money, if the fridge can fit where I have placed it. It's good to have access to the fridge without interferring with what's going on in the kitchen, but you could put it somewhere else if you prefer. I've put the door into the bathroom as you had adjusted it but put the toilet behind that door ensuring enough leg room. This can be as little as 1m or 1100mm given the space actually goes to the shower when the door is closed. The existing walls could work for this but might need adjusting a bit. The linen cupbd can stay where it is but move the HW cylinder back and make the cupbd deeper. Then the powder room next to this pushing into the space currently occupied by your pantry. The deeper from the door wall you make the powder room, the shorter the space can be but pace it out to get it working well. Tight powder rooms are unpleasant. 1100 x 1400 should work but it depends on how big the door, toilet and basin are. Put the toilet to one side centred no more than 400mm off the wall making more space on the door side. The laundry occupies the space where your toilet is currently but widen it right out to the window so it is at least 1200mm deep if you can. If you need more space than the window allows, you can make the window smaller. Having double cavity sliders will make the space more usable. The kitchen becomes a galley arrangement with the butlers pantry just being a section of the space that is screened off from the dining and living rooms. This whole space will be really efficient. There are no corners for the kitchen in this arrangement, which I love as there are no complicated storage issues. You can move around the sinks and cooker if you like and make the peninsular an island if you don't mind losing 1000mm of it and the storage below. Also if you are a follower of Fung Shui, having fire and water (cooker and sink) on the same bench is not ideal. You could locate one of these on the peninsular and if you have young children, probably keep the cooker on the outside wall. The peninsular bench/pantry wall can be adjusted either way to suit joinery modules for better pricing. I.e, use 450 & 600mm modules or wider for big drawers. You can have an additional sink in the pantry if you want it but to save money, instead, move the sinks down in front of the other window and shunt the cooker to the left a bit. That way, all the mess is screened from the dining space. If you need some structural support on the living room end, you can have a post or short wall on the end of the peninsular. If you want the kitchen accessed from the dining room side rather than the living room, just shorten the peninsular bench so the fridge is still easily accessed. Good luck with the renovations. If you do the study nook rotate it 90 degrees to open off the dining so it gets some natural light or add an opening onto the dining wall.
I like the drying alcove in 2 if it is wide enough to stand and hang clothes. A heated drying cupboard might might be a good option for you. Check them out.
I am not sure why the master bath and bed 2 look onto alcove. Privacy?
In op2 2 move the entry to mud room so it allows you to go straight through into laundry without a dogleg.

is the house for the same family of four with overseas guest ..don't you need the big scullery, work from home study and the gym?...there seems to be a lot of wasted space and smaller bedrooms and it's not possible to make realistic suggestions without understanding the whole house and site better

Kate, great idea to rotate study nook. I’ll definitely do that. Drying space needs more work. We’ll install a hydronic panel and an indoor clothesline. I hang washings during warm months to so open space works better than drying cupboards. Court yard idea came from our architect. We didn’t want kids bedrooms right next to laundry and bathrooms so probably he had to do this.

Oklouise, I’m not sure how you know about my family. Have I mentioned about ourselves in the past? I’ve checked my previous posts but couldn’t find any.
I agree that these floor plans have lots of wasted spaces and that’s why I’m struggling. I love to have a big pantry and a laundry but no need a big study not a gym. I really appreciate you try to help me but I’m little uncomfortable to let people know too much details of our family and current situations. Thank you for taking time for me.

without dimensions another suggestion, I would keep the powder room as it's in a great position for family and friends coming and going I also think that the nook is too deep claustrophobic and wasted space, it would be better without doors with access from the kitchen, Change the shape of the Powder room to allow for this, the Pantry food storage would be better with a shallow open shelve section.

A hanging rail across the window is great for drying, it's what I use.

Siriuskey, I know the powder room is handy. It can be accessed from outside easy too but we thought 3 powder rooms in downstairs were too many. We have an open study desk in kitchen at our current house and it’s always messy with bills etc. and that’s why we wanted to have closable one but your layout is very neat. We’ll think about both powder room and study again. Great idea to hang washings by the window. Thank you so much.
