Wok Cooking with induction, Your Thoughts?

Hi All,

About to start building my new house and am finalising appliances etc.

I'm considering an induction cooktop but i'm worried about wok cooking.

I would cook in a wok currently 2-4 nights a week on the gas wok burner on my freestanding stove

which is rated at 14mj/h. Could do with more heat, but Happy enough with the results.

I'm concerned that I won't be happy with the heat from an induction cooktop when doing wok cooking. My only previous experience was with a new induction cooktop at an ex partners house maybe 5 years ago. I found it a little underwhelming even when cooking stirfries in a frying pan, i'd always be hitting the boost button to get a bit more heat into it.

My options are to go an induction cooktop, with a gas wok burner on one side, which range from 20-24mj/h so a bit more heat than I had on my oven cooktop (approx 5k). Or an induction cooktop with a seperate gas wok burner on the side (approx 1.2k for wok burner, then induction cooktop).

What are your thoughts? Do you do much asian/wok cooking.

Are you happy with induction compared to gas for this?

Any help would be great!

Go to a store such as good guys or winning appliances and ask for a demonstration using the wok. Call ahead so you can be sure they can do the demo. This way you can be sure of making the right choice for you.

Hi, Thanks for that. Good idea but I think I'd have to drive 3 hours to Melbourne to be able to get a place to do that for me. Might have to be on the cards though.

It is a pain but probably worth it when you think of how long you will have your cooker.
