Price Differences
I can sort of understand some suppliers have different cost structures , even different marketing strategies . I can understand some builders cutting corners with either labour , product quantity or product quality . This post ISN'T about that .
I found a jug and toaster pair I liked --
Smeg isn't a cheap brand , but within reason I am prepared to pay what they are asking . So I looked on-line , and here in New Zealand it appears there were 2 retailers that 'stocked' these . I called 3 smaller retailers too , but none could supply , and it turned out the 2 larger retailers didn't actually have this particular model here in New Zealand , but both can get them , as long as I paid a $200 deposit at one shop , or in full at the other .
Here's where it gets interesting though . One ( ironically , the one that wanted the $200 deposit ) wanted $660 ; the other wanted $1095 in full . I can fully understand a $100 , maybe even a $200 difference , but over $400 is a bit much surely ?
Not the end of the world , and maybe they source these from different suppliers ( maybe one has direct access to Smeg , the other gets them from an Aus or German or US or wherever retailer ? ) but definitely something I can't understand . I'm sure neither retailer would be too upset at losing my sale , but it certainly shows it pays to double check , and it makes me reluctant to buy anything off the more expensive retailer , and no doubt I'm not the only person that checks prices , so I wonder how many other items they do this to ?

If so, could you accept putting it diagonally from the entrance doorway, across that corner where it is, stopping at the edge of your window? That's a bit of a move outward, still can see the fp and tv, and show off your new rug, which could go diagonally in front of the sofa. Then, if you like that, after a while you could move it on out as Deb K suggests. Sometimes intermediate steps are more doable for us than those big changes.Same with painting; if you could first paint just the fp wall, then later paint other walls...seems some color would really make it more homey. If not a hasty sketch with dimensions could help a lot. By kitchen wall do you mean the wall behind the bar ? And where is the pool wall ? Are you considering the covered area as being "inside" ? Sorry for all those questions lol Sometimes when you have a design problem you need to turn it inside out or on it's head. If you can't beat it maybe embrace it by making a feature of it : i.e. contrast by having the lightest colored pool surround and a great blue or tile inside and under the overhang, something that will echo the water color ? If you have a great covered area as in photo you'll most likely be spending a lot of time there and it could be soothing to be able to sometimes retire into a darker inside. In my book, 10M isn't small and also contrasting two floor colors doesn't necessarily make a space seem smaller and confined and may in fact even open it up. which is in copper , even that was a treat at $109 , but then I saw the Smeg ones @C P .
Probably 50% of my kitchen stuff is from K Mart , I don't buy the $10 plasticy stuff , and I must confess I have gone to the occassional designer store , but I would class myself normally as a mid-range buyer . About 15 years ago I discovered Eygptian Cotton towels , and bought around 30 of them over 2 or 3 years ( all from the same store , all in red ) and I still have around 26 of them ! The sloping one looks cool , but I see its 349 Pounds in England so it would be getting close on $1000 here , just for the jug .
One bonus though is that I don't have a Bugatti in my collection , and the Porsche wants a new friend . . . . . . . . .

The Mistral will be around $10 mil , I'm not sure if I actually want one , but it would be nice to know you could buy one I guess . My bank officially doesn't want me spending any silly money , I think $10mil might come into that category haha .
The bank doesn't know yet , but when my existing house sells , I have to refinance a few things , but I will have some play money , and it is quite likely I will buy a new McLaren -- there's no logical reason to buy one , but I'm a car guy and also Bruce McLaren was a New Zealander -- if I can get the money , why not buy one ?
And even though officially I'm not spending silly money , last week I bought a genuine 1986 AMG Mercedes 560SEC -- the iconic black widebody 'uber-yuppy' big 2 door Merc coupe .
And just as a bit of a tease , you saw my red 356 Porsche @Julie Herbert -- that was the model that James Dean died in . Porsche only ever made 3200 of them , and only 280 were Right Hand Drive -- my red one is RHD , but if you look at what we call our Number 2 shed , you will see my silver race one -- its LHD , so I have the set haha !

At one stage , this almost morphed into a car thread -- I just thought I'd put up some pics of quite a nice car
With the sloping grille , that windscreen , etc , you'd wonder if it is a custom , but believe it or not , it is a 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 coupe ! I just googled , and between 1925 and 1931 , 3512 sedans were sold , and 18 -- yes 18 -- of the coupes ! I'd say that 97 years ago , this would have been extremely radical .
The sedan wasn't too bad
and I'd be interested in the prices of the 2 at the time ( I can only assume the coupe was SOOOO expensive that not many people could afford them ? ) . Or maybe the coupe was considered ugly ? Who knows .
As far as current values go , with only 18 coupes they are worth what someone will pay , but the last publicly reported sale was The Peterson Musuem in the US paid $1.5million for one . In 1991 . 31 years ago . No idea of its condition at the time , and it is on display now . At a guess though , I'd be surprised if you could get one now for under $40 million , and if someone sold one for $100 million it wouldn't even surprise me .
