Help needed - Ensuite reno

We have a local tiler managing our ensuite renovation. He has not managed his trades well and hence we are now on week 6 without a bathroom. He finished the tiling on Friday and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. I'm am seeking opinions and asking for help on what to do from here??? Not sure what my options are. I will attach just a few of the photos to show the level of his work but also preface this by saying he came highly recommended. His own plumber who came out yesterday to fit off the taps said this is one of the worst he's ever seen. Hoping someone can help because I don't know enough to understand if this can be fixed or do we need to insist he start again ??? Thanks in advance for any advice, At this stage U called him prior to the plumber fit out to ask him to pause and come have a look and he said the plumber was booked and that he will "try" and get out this week. I will not name and shame so please don't ask. This is just a VERY small example of the issues and there is missing or cracked grout everywhere.

A disaster as a tiling job, inconsistent joint widths, and gaps , this particular tile requires an competent experienced tiler, with setting out skills and the minimum cutting of each tile

A Niche requires setting out ( with a tolerance ) to the tile dimension, by the carpenter,,

As with the location of the recessed wall cabinet require setting out to the tile dimensions,

Tiling under a mirror would save tile cost, however not worth the tilers time

Suggestion, Don't pay,

however, to remove and replace an expensive time consuming option, In the long run remove and start again better option, requiring starting from Stripout

Reconsider not having a bathtub in your large master bath space, which currently has a good bit of wasted space, for your convenience as well as for future buyers. You also don't appear to have any counterspace or storage by the sinks, the shower is big enough that you don't need a door on it, and a small freestanding soaker tub could fit under the window in the wet area of the space if the door to the bathroom was moved a couple of feet up the wall opposite the sinks. You can't put furniture on that wall, anyway, due to the traffic pattern.

We built a new home where we walk through our wardrobe into the ensuite and it works really well. I would suggest getting rid of the first pocket door as we found you don't need this and it keeps it more open. I assume the rectangle is the shower? Is there a window in there?

Why was the wall not completely tiled before installing the mirror? This will just be a place for moisture to gather and get wood rot. Why has the floor air vent not been cleaned or replaced and a new grate installed? Why is there so much dirt under the carpet? Why is that horrible cheap looking silver thing around the niche? A good tiler will be able to finish the tile corners with correct cutting of tiles and correct grout application.

@dreamer the mirrored shaving cabinet was fitted by his builder and is recessed into the wall. Not sure why he didnt line the wall to the left before putting it in place either. When I qestioned the gap his reply was "what do you want me to do about it"!!!!! When I said I felt it would cause a moisture problem he said that it isnt in a wet zone. I said that it will still get steam and will cause a woodrot problem and all that aside it looks terrible. The junk around the carpet just needs a clean as we are laying new carpet in the next few months so that doesnt bother me, its the lack of groput through that entryway and the tile that doesnt sit flush to the door and he has filled the gap with silicon!!!! In relation to the air vent, I need to go buy a new one but he hasnt tiled on one side so was just showing that there is a gap there when the vent is in place. Totally agree about the niche and the trim whilst ugly isnt also flush and the coreners dont meet.

@amanda ognibene, yes I thought I would not mention the bad cutting and grout application. That is obviously a very poor job.

Can’t really tell, but appears that one complete tile would have fitted in the niche, so no thought or planning was put into the size of the tiles and the best way to tile the complete bathroom walls. One tile should cover all narrow spaces, eg next to the power switch. Instead of having two skinny tiles having to be grouted. It’s as though he did not measure and cut correctly and was just filling in the wall without forward thought and consideration.

Maybe the person that highly recommended the tiler only had a very small simple job completed, not a full bathroom. My recommendation is to get the tiling pulled out and re tiled. But this is your decision, we can not make this for you, as the expense will be great in time and money.

I hope you didn't pay him? We always do progress payments for trades on large jobs, if we are not happy don't pay..

@Beach Bathrooms thanks for your comments. Since my last post we are 12 weeks into this renovation and awaiting the shower screen to be installed which is supposed to be happening this week. So with little/no use we today discovered a crack in a floor tile that has appeared somtime in the past few weeks. AS a professional can you shed any light why this would have happened? We have already had the tiler back twice to go over the holes that were in the grought and relay a couple of tiles thay were etremely crooked. To say we are still dissapointed by this renovtion is an understatement. We have $6K left to pay him but I feel like I need a professional to come amd have a look. Would appreciate your thoughts.
