Buffalo Grass Very Spiky

Belinda X
last year

Hi, over a year ago we planted Kings Pride Buffalo grass. It seemed very soft and bouncy when we first planted it. Now, however it has many seeds which are spiky. It actually hurts to walk on it or lie down on it. We have tried moving it lower. This helps partially but It's still spiky. We water it every 2 days for 15mins (Summer) and once a month we weed and feed it. How can we reduce or remove the seed spikes? Why is it doing this?

You can’t make it less spikey. That is what buffalo grass is like. I remember running around on my grandmas buffalo and ending up with cut feet, similar to paper cuts. You maybe should of planted Palmetto buffalo grass it is soft on feet and laying down is not an issue.
