Too much gutter overhang

My roof tin overhangs my storm gutter too much. Can't get my hand in to clean and also overflows during storms.
House is made of cool room panels and gutter is attached to wall.
Can I pack the gutter mounts off the wall or will I need to cut the tin back?
Anyone have an elegant solution?

If the roof sheet overhang is too long, spacing the gutter out from the wall (“packing off” the brackets) is usually not a good fix. It can reduce the gutter’s structural stability, mess with the fall (slope), and in heavy rain the water can overshoot the gutter entirely. It may look like an easy solution, but it tends to create more problems than it solves.

The cleaner options are:
- Trim the roof overhang slightly so water drops cleanly into the gutter. This is the most reliable long-term fix if the overhang is excessive.
- Install a gutter apron / drip edge that extends into the gutter. This redirects water properly without cutting too much metal.
- Use wider or deeper gutters if replacement is feasible, giving you more catch area.
- For cleaning access, a gutter guard system can reduce how often you need to reach inside, though it won’t fix overflow caused by poor alignment.
Overflow during storms is the key signal here—water isn’t entering the gutter efficiently, so geometry needs correcting, not just spacing. Cutting back the tin slightly or adding a drip edge is typically the most “elegant” and effective approach.

I won't bother with lattice, barrels are partially obscured from the street by fencing and if I put it up I would have to work around the lattice in order to turn the valves for water. If I can just make better use of collected water I'll be happy. We are at the end of our growing season so I should be cleaning up the garden and putting it to bed for the winter, just can't seem to get motivated. We had our first frost last week. Usually, our average early frost date is 1 November. I got almost no produce from garden this year, but there is always next year. Chookchook2 I've seen some of those decorative metal panels and they are gorgeous, sure hope your budget will allow you to get some before too long. Most of our state has been on fire for a good part of the summer. The closest is across the river from us and they have been battling it for almost a month. Some friends have had to evacuate repeatedly. We've only been concerned once, a small grass fire on our side of the river on a day we had wind gusts up to 65mph. Fortunately, it was put out quickly. Australia and New Zealand have both sent firefighters to help with the blazes. I can't begin to tell you how appreciative we are. The closest fire was fought for almost a week by local volunteers only as there were no other resources available. They were all on other fires. The Army National Guard (reserve troops) were called out to help with support duties and for the first time ever the federal Department of Natural Resources (DNR) asked for civilian volunteers to help with non firefighting tasks, cutting fire breaks, moving supplies etc.

The setting is quite tropical, so a darker scheme with white trims has such a tropical holiday feel. You may consider using a concrete face brick for the lower section. Yes to all those ideas. I believe your cladding is unpainted concrete bricks (is it called Summerhill Stone?) in that (boring) fawn colour. My house is same but was painted by previous owners. It looks so much more up to date and the surface is lasting very well; no signs of peeling or flaking. So despite needing to maintain a painted surface, I think painting is the way to go. Alternative is a costly plaster job. Then the entrance - yes, wide generous steps onto a wide deck or patio, some vertical or horizontal slatted panels for protection or privacy as needed, clear roofing for protection and to allow light to the rooms. And paint the front door a vivid color to indicate the entrance. Just make this area feel generous! Dependent on the adjacent rooms and which direction the house faces opening up one or more of those windows into sliders or stackers would be great. Plants in big pots are good too, add colour and texture - and you already have some there. Good luck - I love the idea of turning an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan!

A very simple layout keeping the floor space within the kitchen, the WIP takes up a lot of space with not much gain, The broom cupboard could be moved to the Laundry/entrance, narrow. If the wall has been bumped out to the eaves on the deck side giving an extra 300 depth to the kitchen you could make the island 2700 x 1200 and all drawers. The wall of narrow pantry will hold all pantry needs and more, no deep cupboards to dig into. cheers

Cutting the panels back is a massive pain and usually ends up looking like a jagged mess, especially with insulated cool room material. I’d definitely go with packing the gutter out instead. You can use some 20mm or 30mm plastic spacers or even treated timber blocks behind the brackets to give you that gap. It solves the overflow issue because the water actually has a chance to drop into the center of the tray rather than shooting right over the edge, and you'll finally be able to get a scoop in there to clear out the muck. Just make sure you use longer stainless screws to account for the extra depth so the weight of a full gutter doesn't pull the whole thing off the wall.
