Help with kitchen splashback
I have a kitchen dilemma I'd love thoughts on. Our kitchen has been finished since last year, except for splashback. We wanted to use copper--the kitchen is largely natural materials, with travertine floor, reclaimed wood bench, and copper pendants--but it has proved too difficult to get anyone to do the work.
This is the main section of wall for the splashback, which is at the end of the kitchen next to the pantry (pictured bare and also as it normally looks with things on the bench).
There is also a very long thin section between the bench and the window architrave (approx 65mm high), with two sets of power points (or there will be once it's finished) and a very skinny section between the bench waterfall and the door architrave (about 50mm wide) which is just bare brick.
These latter two spaces are the most annoying because they're so thin.
What would you do for splashback?? Further info that may be of help: the window and doors face north so the splashback wall gets direct sun in winter and in general the room gets a lot of light. Broader view of the whole kitchen for context.

Comments (1)Hi Davina, either way would look good, so don't stress about it too much. This is a similar set up to our kitchen and I went with A & B both tiled and haven't regretted it. It looks generous and is more practical. Tiles are best around food prep areas as they are easier to clean than a painted wall ... you think that the splash back is what gets the most dirty but the walls around it get their share of splashes as well. In terms of suggestions for tiles - we went with a white textured subway - boring I know, but classic. Using a darker grey grout to match your bench would look good. 6 months agoCopper would look stunning and match your beautiful pendants, there are companies that deal exclusively in copper and metal for splashbacks, I found these just with a quick search. Finding the right installer who deals with what you are after is paramount to the finish. It could look absolutely beautiful.

I would keep copper as an accent and just go for a glossy tile.
Zellige is a nice option as it has an uneven surface and will capture the sunlight and offer textural differentiation to the kitchen. It will also keep your focus on your beautiful bench top and retain the dynamic shape of the cabinetry on that wall.
If you don't want the shape and would rather fill it in, then think brown/black. This tile again keeps the metallic aspect to an accent rather than a full panel.
