Hi shinae, keeping things simple and de-cluttered is the key to smaller spaces. You can add bits of color to accessorize and consider furniture that serve multi-function such as dining table as office desk.
Make your furniture work double-duty: Ottomans that double as seats, a floor lamp with a side table built in, perhaps a table that can double as a desk, etc.
Murphy bed? A coffee table that can be raised to serve as a dining table. Use mirrors to give a sense of more space. If you have high ceilings, use the vertical space to create a loft space for living or storage. Keep things simple and well scaled to the space.
