The lounge has been designed as a calming yet sophisticated, family-friendly space, equally suited to entertaining guests or relaxing together for a quiet evening with a board game. We have retained and restored original details, including the coffered ceiling and lincrusta door panels, while installing triple-glazed sash windows and insulation to improve energy performance. This space forms part of a wider retrofit of a beautiful Edwardian home in Bushey. We have worked closely with the client and their architect to balance energy efficiency with the preservation of the property’s character, while reflecting the family’s interior style.

I ripiani passano sopra le due porte che conducono alla lavanderia e alla zona notte, creando una continuità visiva della struttura. Utilizzando lo stesso legno del pavimento i materiali dialogano e creano uno stacco dalle pareti bianche.

The client brief was to create a cosy and atmospheric space, fit for evening entertaining, but bright enough to be enjoyed in the day. We achieved this by using a linen effect wallcovering which adds texture and interest. The large chaise sofa has been upholstered in a dark herringbone weave wool for practical reasons and also provides a contrast against the wall colour. A gallery wall behind the sofa has been framed by two bronze Porta Romana wall lights which provide soft, ambient lighting, perfect for a relaxing evening. The armchair and ottoman have been upholstered in the same fabric to tie the two seating zones together and a bespoke calacatta viola marble coffee table wraps around the ottoman, providing a flat surface for drinks. To give the room a focal point, we built a chimney breast with a gas letterbox fire and created a recess for the large screen television. Bespoke fitted cabinets with fluted doors either side of the chimney provides ample storage for media equipment and the oak shelves, complete with LED lighting display a collection of decorative objects. In between the shelves we fitted beautifully patinated antique mirror to give the illusion of space.

We were commissioned to transform a large run-down flat occupying the ground floor and basement of a grand house in Hampstead into a spectacular contemporary apartment. The property was originally built for a gentleman artist in the 1870s who installed various features including the gothic panelling and stained glass in the living room, acquired from a French church. Since its conversion into a boarding house soon after the First World War, and then flats in the 1960s, hardly any remedial work had been undertaken and the property was in a parlous state. WALL GLAZED FIREPLACE This fireplace takes its name from Edo, the former name of Tokyo between the 15th and 19th centuries. It was in this city that the model won a bid against international competitors to be installed in 121 deluxe flats. Tokyo has graciously lent its ancient name to the fireplace it elected winner.
