Hi - Homeowner here -- the perimeter countertops are pietra cardosa, and the island is Calcutta gold marble (both honed). I use the kitchen HARD (see my food blog www.subeeskitchen.com) and after 3 years there are no stains. A few etchings from vinegar/lemon juice are barely visible if you look at the counter sideways at counter level (as in -- not really noticeable). This is a functional kitchen and I'm glad I didn't let myself get talked out of the white marble -- no other material looks or feels the same. I don't mind a few imperfections/signs of wear, but if that would bug you I would go with something else. I haven't sealed this since the installation -- probably should do that this winter. The pietra cardosa is very durable/stain resistant, though it's softer than granite and there are a few dings around the sink from my heavy pots & pans.
