New Zealand
Varied materials help this bathroom by Quill in Akaroa, NZ, bridge a modern-classic divide. Variegated milky greens in the zellige tiles complement the artwork and provide a timeless foundation, which is then leavened by the cane mirror frames and a blonde timber vanity. The landscape image (in both senses) reflects the shape of the rectangular basin in carefully chosen harmony.

Spain
Architect Ruben da Silva of Brákara Studio describes this bathroom in Barcelona, Spain, as contemporary with pure lines, and minimalist and functional with a bright, industrial flair.
Da Silva sees the vanity as the protagonist of the room. Despite the strong contrasts in the space, the final result is light and elegant. Da Silva suggests that it was this room’s prevailing industrial, but at the same time warm, style that caught Houzz users’ collective attention.

United Kingdom
The colour scheme throughout this townhouse designed by the team at Indie & Co in London, UK, is light and fresh with black and navy accents. In the powder room, however, this palette has been reversed – an ideal choice to embrace the cosy feel of the compact space. This small Japanese bathroom in Nagoya by Clasis Home is a tricky space to decorate. Darker hues create a snug environment – white was avoided even in the tiniest details, including the power points and downlights.
The large floor tiles give the room a contemporary feel and makes it look more spacious. The vanitytop is made from marble with a drop-in sink. The door on the right leads to a walk-in wardrobe with built-in shelving and cabinetry, while the door on the left hides the toilet from view.

At first glance it’s easy to miss how many space-saving ideas have been incorporated into this calm, Scandi-inspired bathroom in Sydney, NSW, designed by HecticrAt Architects. Clean-lined, uncluttered practicality features in the form of a wall-hung toilet and floating vanity, sconce lights and a frameless glass shower screen.
