Makings of Fine Kitchens & Bathrooms
Old world meets new world in this tasteful and charming bathroom renovation.
Nods to the property's heritage were achieved via the use of traditional federation-style patterned floor tiles and wood panelled walls while modernity was achieved via the use of sophistaced and muted white, grey and blue tones.

The primary bath boasts of a 72" navy double vanity with gold hardware. The rectangular mirrors framed with beveled mirroring compliment the space without overpowering other elements of the room. The Bath has all Moen fixtures in gold finish. The blue and cream soft patterned floor tiles cover both the bath and toilet closet and were the inspiration for the color palette.

Historic versions of the original architect’s drawings were found in the Boston Public Library. This allowed original concepts to be reinterpreted for the new design. In the main living space, bamboo floors cascade down the stair, and provide a light contrast to rich mahogany. Mahogany details link each floor by connecting handrail to mantelpiece to cabinets. We researched ship and train bathrooms to figure out how to insert a full bath in this tiny space. Here the body became a unit of measure. The addition of translucent laminated glass walls encloses the room. The glass walls provide privacy, but keep the adjacent bedroom open.

This historic guest bathroom needed a fresh look that was in keeping with the home's original character. We started with the gorgeous blue and white handpainted marble tile flooring. Then, we painted the walls in a soft water color blue, freshened up the shower with crisp white subway tile and dressed up the sink area with a custom vanity with legs and Crystorama wall sconces. Fluffy towels and custom roman shades soften the look. The homeowners are thrilled to welcome guests to their new guest bathroom.

In this master bathroom, a large built in jetted tub was removed and replaced with a freestanding tub. Deco floor tile was used to add character. To create more function to the space, a linen cabinet and pullout hamper were added along with a tall bookcase cabinet for additional storage. The wall between the tub and shower/toilet area was removed to help spread natural light and open up the space. The master bath also now has a larger shower space with a Pulse shower unit and custom shower door.
