This tiny bathroom wanted accessibility for living in a forever home. French Noir styling perfectly fit this 1930's home with modern touches like curved corners on the mirrored medicine cabinet, black grid framing on the shower glass, and an adjustable hand shower on the same bar as the rain shower head. The biggest challenges were finding a sink with some countertop space that would meet code clearance requirements to the corner of the closet in the adjacent room.

As the client anticipated using the house in retirement, the first floor includes a full bath and 4th bedroom. The threshold-free shower was designed with flexible showering hardware for standing and seated showering. A slatted cedar window shutter provides privacy, yet even while closed, allows sunlight and even a breeze to enter, when the window behind is open.

The main bathroom was recreated in an authentic Californian bungalow style featuring tessellated tiles, subway tiles in a brick pattern with capping tiles, Shaker-style framed mirrored cabinet, pedestal vanity, older-style toilet with timber toilet seat and older-style accessories. The original stained glass window was maintained. The only modern variation was the streamlined glass shower wall.

The 1931 built home had a full-height basement, but with many of the original hot water heat pipes hanging low. The boiler was relocated and replaced with a tankless on-demand heat system, allowing for a unobstructed ceiling throughout the space. An egress window was installed, allowing great natural light to flood into a new bedroom; a walk-in closet, office nook and a three-quarter bathroom with a bench seat in the curbless shower. Classic subway tile and hex floor tile compliment the original bathroom upstairs.
