This master bath in a condo high rise was completely remodeled and transformed. Careful attention was given to tile selection and placement. The medicine cabinet display was custom design for optimum function and integration to the overall space. Various lighting systems are utilized to provide proper lighting and drama. This project is a good example of what can be done with a little refresh. Sometimes parts of your space work well and parts don’t, so a full gut and replace might not make sense. That was the case here. After living with it for a decade or so realized they would really prefer two sinks in the vanity. Since there were two windows in the bathroom, we decided to eliminate the window to the left of the current vanity and replace with it with a longer run of cabinets. The other window is to the right of the vanity let’s in beautiful morning light. The window we removed was a northern exposure and its location under an eave didn’t allow for much light, so it was the perfect solution! In addition to the new vanity, we also changed out the countertop, added new mirrors and lighting, and changed out the tile floor to a larger hex with fewer grout lines. This adds a brighter more modern look while still maintaining the vintage feel of the room. The shower was in great shape, so we left that as is except for swapping out the shower floor tile to match the main floor and adding a more updated decorative mosaic tile. We added a new toilet and for a bit of luxury a heated towel bar. This beautiful principle suite is like a beautiful retreat from the world. Created to exaggerate a sense of calm and beauty. The tiles look like wood to give a sense of warmth, with the added detail of brass finishes. the bespoke vanity unity made from marble is the height of glamour. The large scale mirrored cabinets, open the space and reflect the light from the original victorian windows, with a view onto the pink blossom outside.

The Sheridan is that special project that sparked the beginning of AYYA. Meeting with the home owners and having the opportunity to design those intimate spaces of their charming home in Uptown Chicago was a pleasure and privilege. The focus of this design story is respecting the architecture and the history of the building while creating a contemporary design that relates to their modern life. The spaces were completely transformed from what they were to become at their best potential. The Primary Bathroom was a nod to tradition with the black and white subway tiles, a custom walnut vanity, and mosaic floors. While the Guest Bathroom took a more modern approach, bringing more vertical texture and bold colors to create a statement that connects this room with the rest of the house.
