Taking the elements of the traditional 1929 bathroom as a spring board, this bathroom’s design asserts that modern interiors can live beautifully within a conventional backdrop. While paying homage to the work-a-day bathroom, the finished room successfully combines modern sophistication and whimsy. The familiar black and white tile clad bathroom was re-envisioned utilizing a custom mosaic tile, updated fixtures and fittings, an unexpected color palette, state of the art light fixtures and bold modern art. The original dressing area closets, given a face lift with new finish and hardware, were the inspiration for the new custom vanity - modern in concept, but incorporating the grid detail found in the original casework.

We designed this bathroom makeover for an episode of Bath Crashers on DIY. This is how they described the project: "A dreary gray bathroom gets a 180-degree transformation when Matt and his crew crash San Francisco. The space becomes a personal spa with an infinity tub that has a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Marble floors and a marble shower kick up the luxury factor, and a walnut-plank wall adds richness to warm the space. To top off this makeover, the Bath Crashers team installs a 10-foot onyx countertop that glows at the flip of a switch." This was a lot of fun to participate in. Note the ceiling mounted tub filler. Photography by Eduard Hueber / archphoto North and south exposures in this 3000 square foot loft in Tribeca allowed us to line the south facing wall with two guest bedrooms and a 900 sf master suite. The trapezoid shaped plan creates an exaggerated perspective as one looks through the main living space space to the kitchen. The ceilings and columns are stripped to bring the industrial space back to its most elemental state. The blackened steel canopy and blackened steel doors were designed to complement the raw wood and wrought iron columns of the stripped space. Salvaged materials such as reclaimed barn wood for the counters and reclaimed marble slabs in the master bathroom were used to enhance the industrial feel of the space.
