New Modern Lake House: Located on beautiful Glen Lake, this home was designed especially for its environment with large windows maximizing the view toward the lake. The lower awning windows allow lake breezes in, while clerestory windows and skylights bring light in from the south. A back porch and screened porch with a grill and commercial hood provide multiple opportunities to enjoy the setting. Michigan stone forms a band around the base with blue stone paving on each porch. Every room echoes the lake setting with shades of blue and green and contemporary wood veneer cabinetry.

The main bath has a sleek, clean feel with mostly white tile and fixtures and contrasting green shower tile.

Contemporary bathroom

The original bathroom on the main floor had an odd Jack-and-Jill layout with two toilets, two vanities and only a single tub/shower (in vintage mint green, no less). With some creative modifications to existing walls and the removal of a small linen closet, we were able to divide the space into two functional bathrooms – one of them now a true en suite master. In the master bathroom we chose a soothing palette of warm grays – the geometric floor tile was laid in a random pattern adding to the modern minimalist style. The slab front vanity has a mid-century vibe and feels at place in the home. Storage space is always at a premium in smaller bathrooms so we made sure there was ample countertop space and an abundance of drawers in the vanity. While calming grays were welcome in the bathroom, a saturated pop of color adds vibrancy to the master bedroom and creates a vibrant backdrop for furnishings.

Our clients are eclectic so we wanted to mix styles in their master bathroom. The traditional plumbing fixtures, modern glass panel door, traditional countertop (marble), modern style vanity, eclectic floor, industrial light, and the mid-century modern mirror all work together to make just the right balance of eclectic.

The old tub was removed to allow for a walk-in shower sheathed in stone, with a glass enclosure, a heated marble floor, fittings by Kallista from Ann Sacks, and Mirror Ball pendant by Tom Dixon. Accessories are by Waterworks. The wall-hung vanity was designed by LD Design and custom made in rift-cut white oak in grey stain. In the bath, the plumbing fixtures are Kallista by Ann Sacks. From cramped and closed off to a more open and efficient guest bath. We used a lovely aqua Thibaut wallpaper to add some texture and kept the cabinets and shower a soft white.
