ASID Design Excellence First Place Residential – Kitchen and Bathroom: Michael Merrill Design Studio was approached three years ago by the homeowner to redesign her kitchen. Although she was dissatisfied with some aspects of her home, she still loved it dearly. As we discovered her passion for design, we began to rework her entire home--room by room, top to bottom.

This renovation project updates an existing New York 1920s apartment with a modern sensibility. The renovated jack-and-jill children’s bathroom features light colored ceramic tile, a custom corian top with integral sink, and a custom oak vanity for a more playful feel. Photography: Mikiko Kikuyama

This bathroom serves as both the bathroom for three bedrooms, but also as the main guest bathroom for the house. The homeowners wanted the bathroom to have a modern, cheery, and playful personality so brightly colored ceramic tiles in modern patterns were used for the shower surround and flooring. White walls, cabinets, and counters make the colors pop.

Subway tile was used to freshen up this guest bathroom. Along with a variety of oil rubbed bronze fixtures & finishes. The flooring was a herringbone porcelain mosaic.

This small transitional bathroom has many features of larger master suite offering a lot of storage space - custom walnut shelves with easy access to the towels, large wall unit, Ikea Godmorgon vanity with spacious checker style walnut drawers. The pebble shaped wall mirror from West Elm together with linen looking tile on a walls and wood looking porcelain tile on a floor create an organic look. Double Oak construction

This bathroom was carefully thought-out for great function and design for 2 young girls. We completely gutted the bathroom and made something that they both could grow in to. Using soft blue concrete Moroccan tiles on the floor and contrasted it with a dark blue vanity against a white palette creates a soft feminine aesthetic. The white finishes with chrome fixtures keep this design timeless.
