Newly constructed double vanity bath with separate soaking tub and shower for two teenage sisters. Subway tile, herringbone tile, porcelain handle lever faucets, and schoolhouse style light fixtures give a vintage twist to a contemporary bath.

When one thing leads to another...and another...and another... This fun family of 5 humans and one pup enlisted us to do a simple living room/dining room upgrade. Those led to updating the kitchen with some simple upgrades. (Thanks to Superior Tile and Stone) And that led to a total primary suite gut and renovation (Thanks to Verity Kitchens and Baths). When we were done, they sold their now perfect home and upgraded to the Beach Modern one a few galleries back. They might win the award for best Before/After pics in both projects! This "powder bath" is the only bathroom for downstairs guests in this gorgeous home, so we really had to give it some pop! Although labeled as a powder, there is actually a walk in shower in the room. We went with a calming blue palette with compliments of white, Calacatta gold marble, and french gold fixtures. We planned a thoughtful redesign of this beautiful home while retaining many of the existing features. We wanted this house to feel the immediacy of its environment. So we carried the exterior front entry style into the interiors, too, as a way to bring the beautiful outdoors in. In addition, we added patios to all the bedrooms to make them feel much bigger. Luckily for us, our temperate California climate makes it possible for the patios to be used consistently throughout the year. The original kitchen design did not have exposed beams, but we decided to replicate the motif of the 30" living room beams in the kitchen as well, making it one of our favorite details of the house. To make the kitchen more functional, we added a second island allowing us to separate kitchen tasks. The sink island works as a food prep area, and the bar island is for mail, crafts, and quick snacks. We designed the primary bedroom as a relaxation sanctuary – something we highly recommend to all parents. It features some of our favorite things: a cognac leather reading chair next to a fireplace, Scottish plaid fabrics, a vegetable dye rug, art from our favorite cities, and goofy portraits of the kids. --- Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. What a transformation! From relocating and creating space for the "comfort-height toilet" -- to the rich "charcoal blue" extended vanity -- to the quartz countertops and brass accents -- to the custom designed penny round floor tile. And to additional design elements on the opposite wall ... stay tuned!

In this space, we updated the master bathroom by taking out the previous wallpaper to a cool grey toned paint. Opening up the once cave like shower to a new bright and open enclosure. By opening up the shower, this bathroom feels bigger and brighter. We added in a strip of blue tile in the shower and the niche to bring in more color to the space.
