This home was built in the 90s in a period of excess: too many moldings, ceilings disproportionately high and out of proportion, built-in cabinetry. This powder bath had all of those issues. By changing the sink cabinet to a furniture piece, topped with white marble and an under mount sink and adding wall covering above and below the wainscoting; this bath now has a clean, unified look. Strong contrast in detail makes each element stand out. The ebony toned wood floor makes the sharp white molding push the middle value (blue) cabinet forward to draw you into the room. New sconces, an antique mirror and countertop objects d'art make a nice contrast to the transitional lines of cabinetry and wallpaper. Photo Credits: Bill Bolin Photography

Wow! Pop of modern art in this traditional home! Coral color lacquered sink vanity compliments the home's original Sherle Wagner gilded greek key sink. What a treasure to be able to reuse this treasure of a sink! Lucite and gold play a supporting role to this amazing wallpaper! Powder Room favorite! Photographer Misha Hettie. Wallpaper is 'Arty' from Pierre Frey. A silver vessel sink and a colorful floral countertop accent brighten the room. A vanity fitted from a piece of fine furniture and a custom backlit mirror function beautifully in the space. To add just the right ambiance, we added a decorative pendant light that's complemented by patterned grasscloth. Design: Wesley-Wayne Interiors Photo: Dan Piassick

Every powder room should be a surprise, a departure even from the rest of the home. Welcome to this little jewel with it's metallic grasscloth and deeply beveled, oversized gold mirror. The vanity was fabricated according to custom specification, of Michelangelo Calacatta Marble. Floating above the floor, this small room has a much larger feel. Photography by Holger Obenaus
