This 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

This beautiful double sink master vanity has 6 total drawers, lots of cupboard space for storage so the vanity top can remain neat, the ceramic tile floor is a brown, gray color, beautiful Mediterranean sconce lights and large window provide lots of light.

The bathroom was gutted and enlarged.
The new counter features Calcutta marble with undermount stainless sink and contemporary faucets. For aesthetics and building code the plumbing pipes were enclosed with a demountable custom designed metal cover.
Contemporary designer lighting was mounted to a full size glass mirror.
Designer wall paper and Italian floor tile added to the ambience of the space.

French Villa master bathroom features a double vanity with a single sink. Mirrored cabinets with crystal handles add to the glam of the space. A light custom tile surrounds the entire floor.

The powder bath is the perfect place to showcase a bold style and really make a statement. Channeling the best of Hollywood we went dark and glam in this space. Polished black marble flooring provides a stunning contrast to the Sanded Damask Mirror tiles that flank the surrounding walls. No other vanity could possibly suit this space quite like the Miami from Devon & Devon in black lacquer. Above the vanity we selected the Beauty Mirror (also from Devon & Devon) with rich detailed sconces from Kallista.

This first floor guest bathroom also functions as the pool bathroom. The blue zellige shower tile coordinates with the Anna French modern coastal wave wallpaper in the guest bedroom.

Walls with thick plaster arches and simple tile designs feel very natural and earthy in the warm Southern California sun. Terra cotta floor tiles are stained to mimic very old tile inside and outside in the Spanish courtyard shaded by a 'new' old olive tree. The outdoor plaster and brick fireplace has touches of antique Indian and Moroccan items. An outdoor garden shower graces the exterior of the master bath with freestanding white tub- while taking advantage of the warm Ojai summers. The open kitchen design includes all natural stone counters of white marble, a large range with a plaster range hood and custom hand painted tile on the back splash. Wood burning fireplaces with iron doors, great rooms with hand scraped wide walnut planks in this delightful stay cool home. Stained wood beams, trusses and planked ceilings along with custom creative wood doors with Spanish and Indian accents throughout this home gives a distinctive California Exotic feel.
