The entire bathroom layout had to be reconfigured to be able to make it a wheelchair accessible space. The two walk-in closets on either side of the bathroom were taken out to make the main bathroom area much larger. With the two closets gone, a large zero-entry shower replaced one side and a large custom built-in wardrobe unit replaced the other side. The new zero-entry shower is large enough to accommodate the wheelchair turning radius within the shower.

Double Sinks and Oversized Vanity with plenty of drawers for storage. Storage cubby on shower side of pony wall keeps shampoo bottles neatly tucked away.

Our client requested a design that reflected their need to renovate their dated bathroom into a transitional floor plan that would provide accessibility and function. The new shower design consists of a pony wall with a glass enclosure that has beautiful details of brushed nickel square glass clamps. The interior shower fittings entail geometric lines that lend a contemporary finish. A curbless shower and linear drain added an extra dimension of accessibility to the plan. In addition, a balance bar above the accessory niche was affixed to the wall for extra stability. The shower area also includes a folding teak wood bench seat that also adds to the comfort of the bathroom as well as to the accessibility factors. Improved lighting was created with LED Damp-location rated recessed lighting. LED sconces were also used to flank the Robern medicine cabinet which created realistic and flattering light. This combination laundry/powder room smartly makes the most of a small space by stacking the washer and dryer and utilizing the leftover space with a tall linen cabinet. The countertop shape was a compromise between floor/traffic area and additional counter space, which let both areas work as needed. This home is located in a very small co-op apartment.

A shower room with sink and vanity, and access from the hall, was notched out of the oversized primary bathroom. The blue 3" x 6" tile satisfied the homeowners' blue wish list item. The contrast of the blue tile and the terra cotta shower floor plus the stained crown molding has a Napa Valley vibe. The shower room is complete with a hinged glass door, a shower seat, shelves, and a handheld shower head.
