This adorable beach cottage is in the heart of the village of La Jolla in San Diego. The goals were to brighten up the space and be the perfect beach get-away for the client whose permanent residence is in Arizona. Some of the ways we achieved the goals was to place an extra high custom board and batten in the great room and by refinishing the kitchen cabinets (which were in excellent shape) white. We created interest through extreme proportions and contrast. Though there are a lot of white elements, they are all offset by a smaller portion of very dark elements. We also played with texture and pattern through wallpaper, natural reclaimed wood elements and rugs. This was all kept in balance by using a simplified color palate minimal layering. I am so grateful for this client as they were extremely trusting and open to ideas. This traditional master bathroom is part of a full bedroom suite. It combines masculine and feminine elements to best suit both homeowners' tastes. 2011 ASID Award Winning Design This 10,000 square foot home was built for a family who prized entertaining and wine, and who wanted a home that would serve them for the rest of their lives. Our goal was to build and furnish a European-inspired home that feels like ‘home,’ accommodates parties with over one hundred guests, and suits the homeowners throughout their lives. We used a variety of stones, millwork, wallpaper, and faux finishes to compliment the large spaces & natural light. We chose furnishings that emphasize clean lines and a traditional style. Throughout the furnishings, we opted for rich finishes & fabrics for a formal appeal. The homes antiqued chandeliers & light-fixtures, along with the repeating hues of red & navy offer a formal tradition. Of the utmost importance was that we create spaces for the homeowners lifestyle: wine & art collecting, entertaining, fitness room & sauna. We placed fine art at sight-lines & points of interest throughout the home, and we create rooms dedicated to the homeowners other interests. Classic Black & White Bathroom Remodel - Vanity and Wallpaper

For the bathroom, we went for a moody and classic look. Sticking with a black and white color palette, we have chosen a classic subway tile for the shower walls and a black and white hex for the bathroom floor. The black vanity and floral wallpaper brought some emotion into the space and adding the champagne brass plumbing fixtures and brass mirror was the perfect pop.

This updated bathroom was transformed into a teenage girl's dream. From the patterned wall paper and gold framed mirror to the statement light bar, this bathroom is full of sophisticated details.

This well used but dreary bathroom was ready for an update but this time, materials were selected that not only looked great but would stand the test of time. The large steam shower (6x6') was like a dark cave with one glass door allowing light. To create a brighter shower space and the feel of an even larger shower, the wall was removed and full glass panels now allowed full sunlight streaming into the shower which avoids the growth of mold and mildew in this newly brighter space which also expands the bathroom by showing all the spaces. Originally the dark shower was permeated with cracks in the marble marble material and bench seat so mold and mildew had a home. The designer specified Porcelain slabs for a carefree un-penetrable material that had fewer grouted seams and added luxury to the new bath. Although Quartz is a hard material and fine to use in a shower, it is not suggested for steam showers because there is some porosity. A free standing bench was fabricated from quartz which works well. A new free standing, hydrotherapy tub was installed allowing more free space around the tub area and instilling luxury with the use of beautiful marble for the walls and flooring. A lovely crystal chandelier emphasizes the height of the room and the lovely tall window.. Two smaller vanities were replaced by a larger U shaped vanity allotting two corner lazy susan cabinets for storing larger items. The center cabinet was used to store 3 laundry bins that roll out, one for towels and one for his and one for her delicates. Normally this space would be a makeup dressing table but since we were able to design a large one in her closet, she felt laundry bins were more needed in this bathroom. Instead of constructing a closet in the bathroom, the designer suggested an elegant glass front French Armoire to not encumber the space with a wall for the closet.The new bathroom is stunning and stops the heart on entering with all the luxurious amenities.
