The 10-foot tall pocket doors leading to a covered porch were designed in collaboration with the architect for seamless indoor-outdoor living. Decorative house accents including stunning wallpapers, vintage tumbled bricks, and colorful walls create visual interest throughout the space. This ranch was a complete renovation! We took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. We opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out on the beautiful front yard. We created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area. We added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests. We raised the ceilings by a foot and added beams for definition of the spaces. We gave the whole home a unified feel using lots of white and grey throughout with pops of orange to keep it fun.

Birchwood Construction had the pleasure of working with Jonathan Lee Architects to revitalize this beautiful waterfront cottage. Located in the historic Belvedere Club community, the home's exterior design pays homage to its original 1800s grand Southern style. To honor the iconic look of this era, Birchwood craftsmen cut and shaped custom rafter tails and an elegant, custom-made, screen door. The home is framed by a wraparound front porch providing incomparable Lake Charlevoix views. The interior is embellished with unique flat matte-finished countertops in the kitchen. The raw look complements and contrasts with the high gloss grey tile backsplash. Custom wood paneling captures the cottage feel throughout the rest of the home. This beautiful transitional home was designed by our client with one of our partner design firms, Covert + Associates Residential Design. Our client’s purchased this one-acre lot and hired Thoroughbred Custom Homes to build their high-performance custom home. The design incorporated a “U” shaped home to provide an area for their future pool and a porte-cochere with a five-car garage. The stunning white brick is accented by black Andersen composite windows, custom double iron entry doors and black trim. All the patios and the porte-cochere feature tongue and grove pine ceilings with recessed LED lighting. Upon entering the home through the custom doors, guests are greeted by 24’ wide by 10’ tall glass sliding doors and custom “X” pattern ceiling designs. The living area also features a 60” linear Montigo fireplace with a custom black concrete façade that matches vent hood in the kitchen. The kitchen features full overlay cabinets, quartzite countertops, and Monogram appliances with a Café black and gold 48” range. The master suite features a large bedroom with a unique corner window setup and private patio. The master bathroom is a showstopper with an 11’ wide ‘wet room’ including dual shower heads, a rain head, a handheld, and a freestanding tub. The semi-frameless Starphire, low iron, glass shows off the floor to ceiling marble and two-tone black and gold Kohler fixtures. There are just too many unique features to list!

What once was a great room lacking purpose and meaning is now a redefined environment fit for fun conversation and entertaining. With a blank canvas, a single piece of art was used to serve as the inspirational driver for this bar design. A wall bump-out was incorporated to anchor the entire bar within the massive great room. Symmetrical balance was formed by use of mirrored open shelves flanking the central piece of artwork. Layers of subtle wall textures from the mother of pearl wallcovering to the washed porcelain tile offer dimension. The rich wooden tones of the millwork highlight the touch of ornamentation and not only contrast against the translucent appearance of the natural quartzite counter but ground the overall design amongst the existing travertine floor. To further compliment the lustrous tones from the art piece, hints of brass and gold are seen in the pendants, bar stool bases and the metal detail intersecting the wall shelves. A deep sage accent wall is introduced to further accentuate the space and create a moodier vibe. Sophistication paired with intriguing elements breathe new life into this transformed great room space.

If you prefer a more grandiose option, or all the amenities of a real bar, you can’t go past a built-in home bar.

What home bar functionalities do you want to include?

Decide how you will use the bar and whether you will need sinks, storage and refrigeration. How can you personalise your bar design?

Bar tools and accessories are an easy and interchangeable way to personalise your bar design. You may want to create a wine bar, tavern-style bar or retro bar, so look for wine glasses and tumblers, for instance, that will help carry this style. Coasters, bar mats or signage will help you to further achieve your desired look.
