A full-scale makeover was necessary to address drainage issues and create a low-maintenance landscape. It also offered an opportunity to incorporate the homeowner's love of Japanese Zen gardens. We designed a contemplative space that melds the traditional Zen aesthetic with Northwest plants and materials. The back yard is a peaceful retreat with stone features and restrained planting. Stone steps lead to a lower gravel patio with Montana sandstone benches.

A small thatched country cottage. The client wanted to light the area at the back where they drove in. Primarily, we lit where the gates open linking it to the electronic gates. The features of the garden were picked up with lighting and backlight the raised bed. Layers were created with lighting.

Creating this landscape, we brought in tons of soil, creating raised berms in order to plant on a very rocky mountain base. Using specimen boulders, Agaves and Yuccas and combining them with drought tolerant perennials adds a wonderful combination of softness and color.

This home owner didn't want to keep mowing his back yard. So we came up with a shade garden design that eliminated his grass and added beauty and function to his back yard. We used mature Natchez Crape Myrtles, Asian Jasmine, Variegated Hostas, and Autumn Fern.
