Les COV, c’est quoi? Les Composés Organiques Volatiles sont des substances chimiques allergisantes ou même cancérigènes émises par la plupart des produits que nous utilisons au quotidien. Ils constituent la principale source de pollution dans une habitation, puisqu’ils émanent notamment des colles, des vernis et des solvants utilisés dans l’ameublement. Pour nos clients, à la tête d’un chai qui travaille en bio, nous devions être particulièrement rigoureux et trouver des alternatives qui n’en rejettent pas. Côté assemblage, l’usage de colles étant proscrit, le solide surface de marque Krion a été soudé ou thermoformé, tandis que les pièces en bois sont tenues entre elles par des chevilles. Pour la finition, nous sommes partis sur une lasure et une laque Unikalo, toutes deux labelisées Excell + (label qui atteste de la faible émission de COV dans l’air). What are VOC ? Volatile organic compounds are allergenic chemical substances released by most products in our houses. VOC are the main pollution source in homes as they come from glues, varnishes, solvents used in furnishing. For our clients and their organic winery, we had to be careful. To put the counter together, we coudn't use glue. We welded the parts made out of Solid Surface, whereas we used dowels for the ones made out of wood. We then applied a stain and a lacquer, both labeled Excell +.

We updated this home bar by replacing the countertops with a granite called Tan Brown which is black granite with browns and a salmon color running through it which complemented the existing floor tiles. We modified the existing cabinets to hold a microwave in the base as well as a mini fridge. A new faucet and sink were also added. What home bar functionalities do you want to include?

Decide how you will use the bar and whether you will need sinks, storage and refrigeration. If you’re a wine connoisseur, you may want to include additional wine storage, whereas a mini bar fridge within the kitchen may need no extra storage at all. What bar furniture will you need?

Seating is essential to any home bar and will impact the style of your home bar design. Storage is another important element, so look for a liquor cabinet and wine racks. Next, if you are creating a freestanding station, you will need a bar table, which are taller and shallower than regular dining tables. How can you personalise your bar design?

Bar tools and accessories are an easy and interchangeable way to personalise your bar design. You may want to create a wine bar, tavern-style bar or retro bar, so look for wine glasses and tumblers, for instance, that will help carry this style. Coasters, bar mats or signage will help you to further achieve your desired look.
