Echo - Whole Home Renovation and Addition (Ottawa)

This period home located on a stunning lot overlooking the Rideau Canal had amazing opportunity. At some point in the homes history it was converted into a triplex unit. Our challenge was transforming the existing building back into a single family dwelling maintaining the aesthetic value of a home built more than a century ago! The major focus of the renovation included keeping the existing shell of the home while integrating a 2 storey addition at the rear. On the main floor a more traditional dining space and separate office were planned for the front of the existing home while a dynamic open concept for the new addition included the kitchen and living room. Beautiful period detailing was designed to integrate the two spaces while cleverly concealing the necessary structure. The new wainscot detailing, crown moulding and chunky trim installed throughout the home provides continuity and hints to a by-gone era. The plan for the second floor included equal sized bedrooms, laundry facilities and main bathroom. Taking full advantage of the existing third floor created the ideal space for a master retreat, complete with luxurious ensuite and spacious walk-in closet. The rear addition was completed with a large walk out deck which allows the living room to flow into the backyard for additional living space. The challenging goal of balancing the original charm of the home with newer transitional finishes and selections and seamlessly integrating the two has resulted in a striking renovation that perfectly pairs the old and the new.
