Original cedar siding below vinyl could not be salvaged, and was replaced with Hardie "Artisan Plank" fiber cement siding with 4" exposure. New carriage house batten doors have beadboard facing, and open outward on strap hinges. Handmade brick was used for porch.

The red accent entry door is 42" wide, with tall sidelights to bring in lots of natural light. The slate multi-format floor tile extends to the covered porch, and the tongue and groove cedar siding flows into the entry to become an accent wall--bringing the outside in and the inside out. The entry area became an 'urban mudroom' with ample storage and a small clean workspace that can also serve as an additional sleeping area if needed. Glass block borrows natural light from the abutting corridor while maintaining privacy.
