This stunning kitchen near Falmouth provided us with an amazing opportunity to explore the limits of kitchen design and materials, enabling us to create a unique multi-functional space. The area includes an enormous island for food prep and entertaining. The large bank of tall cabinets housed 2 ovens, a coffee machine, a combi/microwave, 2 warming drawers, a full-height fridge, freezer and wine cooler as well as 2 larders. Separate built-in furniture provides a drinks cabinet and a concealed media centre. We were impressed by the exceptional craftsmanship from all our suppliers and our fitters to create a seamless built-in look in an open plan area that had previously been a lounge. The kitchen itself is manufactured by British company Masterclass Kitchens in Lumina gloss in Graphite with a pale Scots Grey to contrast on the island. Beautiful Neolith Mont Blanc Silk sintered stone deep profile worktops with meticulously matched veining were crafted by Duke Stone of Cornwall. A complex lighting scheme with several zones managed via an i-Pad app was installed by Falmouth Electrics, including recessed ceiling lighting that perfectly echoed the shape of the island. The spectacular glass panelling made by Optidek integrated original artwork by artisan glass company Red Dog Glass Design - a gorgeous finishing touch. A luxury suite included Neff appliances, Dunavox wine fridge, Quopoker Cube tap, and composite Blanco sinks. It is an absolutely beautiful kitchen of which we are exceptionally proud!

This kitchen pays homage to a British Colonial style of architecture combining formal design elements of the Victorian era with fresh tropical details inspired by the West Indies such as pineapples and exotic textiles. Every detail was meticulously planned, from the coffered ceilings to the custom made ‘cross’ overhead doors which are glazed and backlit. The classic blue joinery is in line with the Pantone Color Institute, Color of the Year for 2020 and brings a sense of tranquillity and calm to the space. The White Fantasy marble bench tops add an air of elegance and grace with the lambs tongue edge detail and timeless grey on white tones. Complete with a butler’s pantry featuring full height glass doors, this kitchen is truly luxurious.

A complete makeover of a tired 1990s mahogany kitchen in a stately Greenwich back country manor. We couldn't change the windows in this project due to exterior restrictions but the fix was clear. We transformed the entire space of the kitchen and adjoining grand family room space by removing the dark cabinetry and painting over all the mahogany millwork in the entire space. The adjoining family walls with a trapezoidal vaulted ceiling needed some definition to ground the room. We added painted paneled walls 2/3rds of the way up to entire family room perimeter and reworked the entire fireplace wall with new surround, new stone and custom cabinetry around it with room for an 85" TV. The end wall in the family room had floor to ceiling gorgeous windows and Millowrk details. Once everything installed, painted and furnished the entire space became connected and cohesive as the central living area in the home.

This project complete changed the entire first floor of the home and created a whole new layout for the family to live in. To start the wall into the old dining room was taken down and the kitchen was expanded into that room, windows were taken out and two new French doors were put in to open up onto a deck that connect the kitchen and the new dining room space from the outside. A half wall that separated the former eat-in kitchen area and the old kitchen space was also removed to create the new dining room space. The entire back half of the house has been transformed into an entertainers dream space. In the new kitchen two islands were installed to further help the flow of the space and keep the cooking and prepping area separate from the eating and entertaining space. Before, the kitchen was clustered into one corner and wasted a lot of space. We re-arranged everything to create this more linear layout, creating significantly more storage and a much more functional layout. We removed all the travertine flooring throughout the entrance and in the kitchen and installed new porcelain tile flooring that matched the new color palette. As artists themselves, our clients brought in very creative, hand selected pieces and incorporated their love for flying by adding airplane elements into the design that you see throughout. For the cabinetry, they selected an espresso color for the perimeter that goes all the way to the 10' high ceilings along with marble quartz countertops. We incorporated lift up appliance garage systems, utensil pull outs, roll out shelving and pull out trash for ease of use and organization. The 12' island has grey painted cabinetry with tons of storage, seating and tying back in the espresso cabinetry with the legs and decorative island end cap along with "chicken feeder" pendants they created. The range wall is the biggest focal point with the accent tile our clients found that is meant to duplicate the look of vintage metal pressed ceilings, along with a gorgeous Italian range, pot filler and fun blue accent tile. When re-arranging the kitchen and removing walls, we added a custom stained French door that allows them to close off the other living areas on that side of the house. There was this unused space in that corner, that now became a fun coffee bar station with stained turquoise cabinetry, butcher block counter for added warmth and the fun accent tile backsplash our clients found. We white-washed the fireplace to have it blend more in with the new color palette and our clients re-incorporated their wood feature wall that was in a previous home and each piece was hand selected. Everything came together in such a fun, creative way that really shows their personality and character.

1. What Makes a Good Kitchen Design, and Why is it Important?

For starters, you want to find a balance between aesthetics and function. You may have heard of the ‘kitchen work triangle’, which refers to the space between your fridge, sink and stove. You want everything within easy reach when you’re working in the kitchen and look beautiful at the same time. It’s a good idea to take note of both when browsing our photo gallery.

2. Consider Your Space to Determine Your Kitchen Layout

Firstly, consider the space you have, and the limitations that come with it. Do you have a small kitchen and need to maximise your workspace and storage? Can you allow yourself some more space and a big island with seating? Are you designing your kitchen from scratch or renovating an existing design? Which appliances do you already own and what are their measurements? Are there windows you need to take into consideration when planning cabinets? How do kitchen, living and dining areas connect? Depending on your space and needs, you want to use a shape that suits you. U, G, or L-shaped kitchen, with or without island or peninsula? Know your dimensions, plan cabinetry carefully and consider the placement of your appliances. You don’t want to end up with a finished design, only for your significant other to question where the fridge is supposed to go. Consider from the start where your fridge, oven, microwave and sink goes to save yourself from starting again from scratch - remember the kitchen work triangle! You also want to plan the layout of your cabinets. Maybe you’re planning for a pantry and can do with less storage space in your kitchen, so that your design can be one without upper or lower cabinets for a different look. A corner cabinet can be a smart storage solution if you want to keep the look clean and simple.

3. Decide on a Kitchen Style, But Don’t Forget Practicality

You want the style of your kitchen to reflect your personality and taste. Consider what your cooking style is for a start - Italy is known for its cuisine, so italian kitchen designs are generally popular. Also consider ergonomics - depending on how much time you spend in your kitchen, the height of your counters can make a big difference to your overall health. You also want to consider colour and finishes of cabinets, countertops and splashbacks. Which colour do you want your cupboards to be? Simple, timeless white or rather making a statement in black? Maybe rather a rustic wood? Also consider the colour of your floor - if you have dark floors, you may want to keep cabinets lighter. You could also go for an all-white look and choose black appliances for contrast. Once you know which style you fancy, don’t forget how you will be using the space. 4. Be Conscious of Your Budget

No matter what you plan for your kitchen design, cost is always a big factor. Be sure to plan with your budget in mind. It may make more sense to go for a modular kitchen design rather than custom build. You can save a lot of money if you get at least 3 estimates from professionals before locking in the job.
