This beautiful home is located in West Vancouver BC. This family came to SGDI in the very early stages of design. They had architectural plans for their home, but needed a full interior package to turn constructions drawings into a beautiful liveable home. Boasting fantastic views of the water, this home has a chef’s kitchen equipped with a Wolf/Sub-Zero appliance package and a massive island with comfortable seating for 5. No detail was overlooked in this home. The master ensuite is a huge retreat with marble throughout, steam shower, and raised soaker tub overlooking the water with an adjacent 2 way fireplace to the mater bedroom. Frame-less glass was used as much as possible throughout the home to ensure views were not hindered. The basement boasts a large custom temperature controlled 150sft wine room. A marvel inside and out. Paul Grdina Photography

This project was a long labor of love. The clients adored this eclectic farm home from the moment they first opened the front door. They knew immediately as well that they would be making many careful changes to honor the integrity of its old architecture. The original part of the home is a log cabin built in the 1700’s. Several additions had been added over time. The dark, inefficient kitchen that was in place would not serve their lifestyle of entertaining and love of cooking well at all. Their wish list included large pro style appliances, lots of visible storage for collections of plates, silverware, and cookware, and a magazine-worthy end result in terms of aesthetics. After over two years into the design process with a wonderful plan in hand, construction began. Contractors experienced in historic preservation were an important part of the project. Local artisans were chosen for their expertise in metal work for one-of-a-kind pieces designed for this kitchen – pot rack, base for the antique butcher block, freestanding shelves, and wall shelves. Floor tile was hand chipped for an aged effect. Old barn wood planks and beams were used to create the ceiling. Local furniture makers were selected for their abilities to hand plane and hand finish custom antique reproduction pieces that became the island and armoire pantry. An additional cabinetry company manufactured the transitional style perimeter cabinetry. Three different edge details grace the thick marble tops which had to be scribed carefully to the stone wall. Cable lighting and lamps made from old concrete pillars were incorporated. The restored stone wall serves as a magnificent backdrop for the eye- catching hood and 60” range. Extra dishwasher and refrigerator drawers, an extra-large fireclay apron sink along with many accessories enhance the functionality of this two cook kitchen. The fabulous style and fun-loving personalities of the clients shine through in this wonderful kitchen. If you don’t believe us, “swing” through sometime and see for yourself! A mix of white painted and stained walnut cabinetry, with brass accents in the hardware and lighting - make this kitchen the showstopper in the house. Cezanne quartzite brings in color and movement to the countertops, and the brass mosaic backsplash adds texture and great visual interest to the walls.

The reclaimed wood hood draws attention in this large farmhouse kitchen. A pair of reclaimed doors were fitted with antique mirror and were repurposed as pantry doors. Brass lights and hardware add elegance. The island is painted a contrasting gray and is surrounded by rope counter stools. The ceiling is clad in pine tounge- in -groove boards to create a rich rustic feeling. In the coffee bar the brick from the family room bar repeats, to created a flow between all the spaces.

Creating a space to entertain was the top priority in this Mukwonago kitchen remodel. The homeowners wanted seating and counter space for hosting parties and watching sports. By opening the dining room wall, we extended the kitchen area. We added an island and custom designed furniture-style bar cabinet with retractable pocket doors. A new awning window overlooks the backyard and brings in natural light. Many in-cabinet storage features keep this kitchen neat and organized. Bar Cabinet The furniture-style bar cabinet has retractable pocket doors and a drop-in quartz counter. The homeowners can entertain in style, leaving the doors open during parties. Guests can grab a glass of wine or make a cocktail right in the cabinet. Outlet Strips Outlet strips on the island and peninsula keeps the end panels of the island and peninsula clean. The outlet strips also gives them options for plugging in appliances during parties. Modern Farmhouse Design The design of this kitchen is modern farmhouse. The materials, patterns, color and texture define this space. We used shades of golds and grays in the cabinetry, backsplash and hardware. The chevron backsplash and shiplap island adds visual interest. Custom Cabinetry This kitchen features frameless custom cabinets with light rail molding. It’s designed to hide the under cabinet lighting and angled plug molding. Putting the outlets under the cabinets keeps the backsplash uninterrupted. Storage Features Efficient storage and organization was important to these homeowners. We opted for deep drawers to allow for easy access to stacks of dishes and bowls. Under the cooktop, we used custom drawer heights to meet the homeowners’ storage needs. A third drawer was added next to the spice drawer rollout. Narrow pullout cabinets on either side of the cooktop for spices and oils. The pantry rollout by the double oven rotates 90 degrees. Other Updates Staircase – We updated the staircase with a barn wood newel post and matte black balusters Fireplace – We whitewashed the fireplace and added a barn wood mantel and pilasters.

The elegant look of grey is hot in kitchen design; a pop of color to base cabinets or center island adds visual interest to your design. This kitchen also features integrated appliances and hidden storage. The open concept floor plan opens up to a breakfast area and butler's pantry. Ceramic subway tile, quartzite countertops and stainless steel appliances provide a sleek finish while the rich stain to the hardwood floors adds warmth to the space. Butler's pantry with walnut top and khaki sideboard with corbel accent bring a touch of drama to the design.
