This custom design of a billiard room is brilliant. Everything in this room works so well together, from the colour scheme to the design of each element. The illuminating cove lighting from the ceiling gives a soft and warm feel to the room. Custom millwork on either sides of the room lead to the custom bench seating at the back. This is a cozy, elegant and sophisticated place to play a game of pool.

This elegant townhouse is rich in detail and has traditional and contemporary elements which adds a timeless appeal. A mix of oriental and transitional area rugs provide the groundwork for which each room . We provided an interesting mix of patterns and textures on the pillows and upholstery to add excitement to the basically neutral space, with pops of color. Custom molding was applied to the dining room ceiling that is right off the entry. No one enters without commenting on this element. As elegant as it looks the client wanted a comfortable feel and was extremely happy with the results.

KITCHEN AND DEN RENOVATION AND ADDITION A rustic yet elegant kitchen that could handle the comings and goings of three boys as well as the preparation of their mom's gourmet meals for them, was a must for this family. Previously, the family wanted to spend time together eating, talking and doing homework, but their home did not have the space for all of them to gather at the same time. The addition to the home was done with architectural details that tied in with the decor of the existing home and flowed in such a way that the addition seems to have been part of the original structure. Having successfully designed the then bachelor’s penthouse residence at the Waldorf Astoria, Kadlec Architecture + Design was retained to combine 2 units into a full floor residence in the historic Palmolive building in Chicago. The couple was recently married and have five older kids between them all in their 20s. She has 2 girls and he has 3 boys (Think Brady bunch). Nate Berkus and Associates was the interior design firm, who is based in Chicago as well, so it was a fun collaborative process. Details: -Brass inlay in natural oak herringbone floors running the length of the hallway, which joins in the rotunda. -Bronze metal and glass doors bring natural light into the interior of the residence and main hallway as well as highlight dramatic city and lake views. -Billiards room is paneled in walnut with navy suede walls. The bar countertop is zinc. -Kitchen is black lacquered with grass cloth walls and has two inset vintage brass vitrines. -High gloss lacquered office -Lots of vintage/antique lighting from Paris flea market (dining room fixture, over-scaled sconces in entry) -World class art collection Photography: Tony Soluri, Interior Design: Nate Berkus Interiors and Sasha Adler Design

We designed this family room in a space which does not get much light, and is long and slightly narrow. It has a sloped ceiling so we painted it white and put in LED lights. The blue and white theme is evident in the dark accents walls, fabrics and velvet sofa. A black edged sisal rug grounds the seating area, and the tortoise roman shades add to the ethnic feel of the room. The TV is hidden in a carved armoire made from old teak ships. Charcoal gray behind the book cases and a gray carved mirror added more sophistication to the space.
