Besides offering seating for several visitors, the Sonoma fieldstone and blue stone curved bench in the upper paatio also serves as a retaining wall. And softened by the colorful plantings on the slope above. This summer display of salvias, succulents and other flowering plants create a natural environment for the birds, bees and butterflies and a welcoming and a tranquil sitting area for the homeowner and guests to enjoy. Decomposed granite patio pathways. The majestic oak is a primary focal point in this setting and opens up to the distance hillsides and a bay view. After working with us on landscape projects at their home and business, these homeowners turned their attention to their lake retreat. A flagstone patio adds cozy entertaining space near the house, while natural stone steps and mown paths add safe access up and down the hillside to the beach. Native plants form the backbone of the landscaping, with planting pockets for colorful annuals arranged throughout.

Close up of Dymondia margaretae ("Silver Carpet"), growing in flagstone gaps. We set the stones at roughly 2.5" apart and added an amended soil to the final 2" between the stones. Plugs were installed on roughly 5-6" centers. 98% filled in after 5 months. Irrigated with Hunter MP rotators at 30 minutes every 10 days. We're now backing it off since they've become established.

Within this garden we wanted to create a space which was not only on numerous levels, but also had various points of interest. This garden is on a slope, but is also very wide. Firstly, we broke up the space by using rustic sleepers to create several raised beds,as well as steps which lead to differennt zones. This helps to give the garden a more traditional, country edge. The sleepers were also used to create a winding path through out the garden, marrying together the various areas. The path leads up to the impressive sunburst pergola and circular stone patio. This is the perfect spot to view the whole garden. At the other end of the garden another pergola sits amougnst a bustling flower bed, and will be used to train vining flowers. Along the back wall of the garden a raised bed is home to a stunning display of wildflower. This plot is not only a fabulous riot of colour and full of rustic charm, but it also attracts a whole host of insects and animals. While wildflowers looks great they are also very low maintenance. Mixed gravel has been used to create a variety of texture. This surface is intermittently dotted with colour with lemon thyme, red hot pokers and foxgloves. Stone has been used to create a warm and welcoming patio area. Flower beds at the front of the garden can be used for veg and other leafy plants. Overall we have created a country style with a very contemporary twist through the use of gravel, modern shape and structural landscaping.

Aralia: Innovation in Landscape DesignAralia: Innovation in Landscape Design
This sociable family, with busy professional lives, invited Aralia to do a complete overhaul on their rural country garden approaching around 1 acre in total. The country garden was split into several garden sections including: Southern Terrace & Orchard Gardens, Rose Garden (to the front of the property), Zen Garden (central garden courtyard), pedestrian entrance front garden, driveway and further lawned gardens including vegetable garden. The southern terrace and Orchard Gardens benefitted from a beautiful existing walled garden area which has been enhanced and complemented with many beautiful features including: large 3m outdoor fireplace using natural stone paddle-stones; a row of magnificent Pleached Trees (Ilex quercus), curved natural sandstone sawn paving with setts and borders crammed with a beautiful array of sculptural buxus spheres and herbaceous planting. The Zen garden is an area for quiet contemplation, and includes Acers and Buxus balls, with a real Japanese slant to the planting scheme – offset by a beautiful central metal sculpture. A mature Photinia Red Robin hedge was installed along the new driveway to provide privacy to the Orchard Garden. Aralia provided a full Landscape Design & Build service, working with a multi-functional team of sub-contractors. They work in extensively in London & The South East (including Hertfordshire & Essex) but work across the Uk & Internationally.
