We developed an old commercial garage into a modern residential loft-like townhouse. It featured a green roof, wide-open spaces, great natural light, trim-less details, and a cedar rain screen. The ground floor was left open and somewhat industrial, with the original i-beam exposed. While that floor would work great as a living room, we wanted to make it an inspiring space for artists and other creative types to work, too. Upstairs was designed to be more refined, though equally loft-like and open. We added skylights and a roofdeck and flooded the space with high quality natural light. A juliet balcony was brought back to life off the second floor. Up on the roof, we created an urban oasis - an ipe and cedar deck, green roof, and cedar rain screen were created to give the new owners a great place to spend a summer evening, enjoying their view of the skyline. Combining both existing materials such as the i-beam and exposed brick with clean, modern lines, we created a unique, open space for live / work urban lifestyles.

Essential, contemporary, and inviting defines this extremely energy efficient, Energy Star certified, Passive House design-inspired home in the Pacific Northwest. Designed for an active family of four, the one-story 3 bedroom, 2 bath floor plan offers tasteful aging in place features, a strong sense of privacy, and a low profile that doesn’t impinge on the natural landscape. This house will heat itself in the dead of winter with less energy than it takes to run a hair dryer, and be sensual to live in while it does it. The forms throughout the home are simple and neutral, allowing for ample natural light, rich warm materials, and of course, room for the Guinea pigs makes this a great example of artful architecture applied to a genuine family lifestyle. This ultra energy efficient home relies on extremely high levels of insulation, air-tight detailing and construction, and the implementation of high performance, custom made European windows and doors by Zola Windows. Zola’s ThermoPlus Clad line, which boasts R-11 triple glazing and is thermally broken with a layer of patented German Purenit®, was selected for the project. Natural daylight enters both from the tilt & turn and fixed windows in the living and dining areas, and through the terrace door that leads seamlessly outside to the natural landscape. Christmas holiday design for an amazing exotic animal conservation ranch in Texas. Our goal was to deliver a holiday scheme indicative of rustic Texas. For year 2013 our look was to design with a color palette of red, green, tan and gold pulling from the use of natural elements, often found on the ranch, such as pheasant and ostrich feathers, deer sheds, lichen covered branches, beautiful vintage fowl and small critter taxidermy, massive pine comes, silver birch branches, natural nests, etc.. mixed with vintage wood skis, copper bladed ice skates, rustic lanterns with battery operated candles on remote, etc.. mixed with layers of printed burlap and crystal velvet brocade ribbon, beads, burnished gold glass ornaments, red velvet poinsettias, etc..
