The Lightness vs Darkness theme carries throughout this project including never used materials and details to create this transitional gem in FlowerMound, TX. The axis and cross axis have stunning water and fire feature elements in the asymmetrical design. The black precise stacked slate spillway provides sound and visual effects and contrasts with the fire line burner visible from everywhere inside. This draws you out to enjoy the pool, and a lot more. The pool offered great places to hang out with the tanning ledge and built in bar stools and lots of room for the game of volleyball. The cross axis from the master bedroom draws the eye across the pool, through the black all tile vanishing edge spa, splitting the dual cabanas, through the fire pit, to gaze on the "Dark Planet" starburst light. The cabanas were divided into entertainment and dining. The graphite air slate, from Spain, covered the entertainment floating center and the cooking counter. Ivory Travertine in a stack bond pattern accented the cabanas, porch, fire pit and key areas blending with the coping and some veneers. The cabana steel roof matched the front home entry roof and helps unify the existing home with the additions. Details were important down the lighted and tiled vanishing edge channel for the spa. This project is one to be enjoyed any day of the week but it really is the shiny star every night. Project designed by Mike Farley. Photos by Mike & Laura Farley.

The steep grades were by far the biggest challenge to this project. In order to create a usable, safe and attractive space it was necessary to get creative with steps and boulders.

The garden design is heavily influenced by a sense of order and symmetry. Matching potted trees mark the transition from the lawn to the patio.
The patio border features quintessential plantings for any Twin Cities garden: hydrangeas, arborvitae, boxwood, nepeta, astilbe, and a columnar birch in the corner.
The arbors along the garage will eventually fill in with clematis vines – softening the look and adding more color to the empty wall. Chunky hardwood mulch has a great visual texture and will add nutrients to the soil as it breaks down.

This was an almost abandoned garden when we took over, with 2 sheds and 1 garage. We have transformed it into a calm oasis of crisp lines, elegant materials, comfortable seating areas, generous lawn for the football-mad men/boys of the family and flower beds providing year long interest. At the far end of the garden, two venerable apple trees provide a strong focus and a bespoke contemporary playhouse offers additional enjoyment in the winter months.

This raised hot tub measures 7'0" x 9'0", and features an automatic pool safety cover. Colored LED lighting sets the evening mood. The hot tub finish is Ceramaquartz, and the coping is Valder's Wisconsin Limestone. The deck around the hot tub and the pathway is Kodiak Granite Slab pavers. The rear yard stoop risers are clad in Chilton Rustic Royal Chateau, and the treads are Kodiak sandblasted Granite. The spa equipment is cleverly hidden utilizing a 48" Cedar wood fence. To give the entrance that old feel of form and charm the drive is bordered by clay pavers as well as a lannon stone seat wall to match the facade. Plantings soften the stone accents and really make you appreciate the curvature.
